"Hello everyone I will be your substitute for the unforeseeable future, thank you for the introduction sir," Ben said as the principal began to walk out.
"You can all just call me Mr.King. Now I'll begin to take the role and I want each of you to tell me something that you have enjoyed learning in this class so far," he said as he began to make his way to the teacher's desk.
I followed him with my eyes, glaring at him when in walked Daniel. He too stopped to look at Ben.
I turned to stare straight at the whiteboard when a text message caught my attention.
Do you know him?
I didn't have the number saved on my phone and began to grow anxious at who could have guessed that I knew Ben. That was until I heard Anthony clear his throat, making me turn my head to my left to look at him and nod. Another text came in.
Is he like you?
I began to turn my head again to look at him and nod once more but Daniel had taken his seat next to me on my left and blocked my view of Anthony.
"Are you texting your boyfriend?"
I turned to look at Daniel, annoyed. Soon the other comments from my other classmates rolled in. Some were oos but most stared at me for what had happened in the parking lot.
"Now, now, please quiet down. I did say that I was going to take attendance now, didn't I?"
I grabbed my phone once more to text Anthony back.
He's like me. No one knows about me being with you last night, try not to draw too much attention by talking to me.
"That includes phones as well," Ben said looking at me.
Clearly, the guy was insane, sure he was too old to still be a high school student but far too young to be a teacher.
"Alright then, let's start. Katrina, is Katrina here?" Ben began to ask the class.
"Here," Katrina said.
"Wonderful, and tell me what has been your favorite thing learned from this class so far," Ben said.
"I liked the Shakespeare reading we have done," she said.
"Really?" Ben said looking at me instead of Katrina, "Do tell me which of his works has been your favorite?"
"We have only read Romeo and Juliet but recently we have been reading another Star Crossed Lovers story."
"Oh how interesting...well thank you for sharing. Now let's see...Samantha.
Ben began to go through the list of students, I was both annoyed and anxiously waiting for mine to be called out when I felt a nug to my left. It was Daniel passing me a note, I took it merely out of curiosity.
I'm sorry.
I took out a pencil from my bag and began to write back, for what?
I passed him the note back and he began writing on the words just below mine.
For slashing your tires.
I scoffed after reading his answer to my question and wrote back. You're not sorry for kissing me.
I was annoyed and side-eyed him, noticing that he was smirking. He passed back the note.
Why would I apologize for something both you and I don't regret?
I rolled my eyes and crumbled up the paper before throwing it into the depths of my backpack.
"Emerald, is Emerald here?" Ben asked.
