The classroom buzzed with the anxiety of students preparing for their math test. Sunghoon sat at his desk, glancing nervously at the clock as the seconds ticked away. Despite Jake’s diligent teaching the night before, the formulas and equations danced mockingly in his mind, refusing to settle into anything coherent. He could practically feel his heart thumping in his chest. As the teacher handed out the test papers, Sunghoon’s stomach twisted. He stole a glance at Jake, who was already scribbling down answers, his brow furrowed in concentration. Sunghoon felt a wave of desperation wash over him. He had to do something.
“Jaeyun,” he whispered, leaning over the desk, careful to keep his voice low enough to avoid attracting the teacher’s attention. “I really can’t remember anything. Can you please help me out? Just this once?”
Jake looked up, his expression firm. “No.”
Sunghoon tried again, "Please? Only a bit?"
“No. You know I don’t let anyone cheat off me.”
Sunghoon pouted, letting his lower lip jut out in an exaggerated way, almost as if he were a child pleading for a treat. “But I’m going to fail! Please, I promise I’ll study harder next time. I can’t do this without you.”
Jake sighed, glancing over at the teacher, who was busy rearranging papers at her desk. “You’re going to get us both in trouble,” he warned.
Sunghoon leaned in closer, lowering his voice even more. “Just a few answers, Jaeyun. I swear I’ll never ask again. I’ll owe you one! You can ask for anything later, okay? I'll even treat you”
Jake rolled his eyes, but there was a flicker of amusement in his gaze. “You’re impossible.”
“Please?” Sunghoon pressed, his voice almost a whisper, desperation lacing his words. “Just this once? I’ll make it worth your while!”
After a moment of reluctant contemplation, Jake finally relented, glancing around the room to ensure the teacher was still distracted. “Okay, but just a couple of answers. No more.”
Sunghoon’s face lit up with a triumphant grin. “Yes! Thank you, Jake!” He quickly leaned over, ready to jot down the answers Jake discreetly provided.
But they didn't know that a student behind them saw the interaction. 'Looks like Jaeyun is in a generous mood today'
As Jake was writing, he heard a voice behind him. “Hey, Jaeyun! Tell me the answers with me too.”
Jake straightened, his expression instantly shifting to one of annoyance. “No, Figure it out on your own.” he said firmly, without even glancing back at the student.
Sunghoon watched, heart fluttering, as Jake’s refusal left the other student crestfallen. Am I special? he thought, a giggle bubbling up inside him. The realization that Jake had drawn a line for him—and him alone—made him feel warm all over.
He was definitely gonna blush about this later.
With renewed determination, Sunghoon focused on the questions in front of him. He allowed himself a moment to bask in the joy of being helped, feeling more confident as he filled in the answers.
As the minutes ticked away, Sunghoon couldn't help but steal glances at Jake, who was resolutely working on his own paper.
'It isn't necessary that Heeseung is his boyfriend. And even if it is, he is worth fighting for.' Sunghoon smiled to himself.
