Part 30

It's been 3 days since me and nika flew back from Wyoming. It's been 3 days since our last spoke to my family. I've gone longer than that before. But this time feels different. It feels different because I don't know if I will ever speak to them ever again.

I've been rotting away in my bed for those three days. I asked nika to give me some space. And she respected my wishes. I just need some time to myself to come to terms with all of these things.

Today Azzi and Paige are both coming back. Paige was in Minnesota. And Azzi was in Virginia. I haven't told Azzi anything I didn't want to put a damper on her Thanksgiving break. So when she came knocking on my door I knew I would have a lot of explaining to do.

"So you told them." She said as she sat criss cross across from me on my bed. I nodded my head slowly feeling the ever reoccurring tears beginning to well in my eyes.

"And what happened after that." She said her voice so soft and gentle. "He hit me. My dad." Azzi nodded her head knowing how my father was. "But nika she stopped him. She told him not to touch me. She helped me leave." I said as the warm tears began to run down my cheeks.

Azzi swallowed hard. She looked at me. She had that look in her eyes. That look like she needed to tell me something. Like there was something she wasn't telling me. I looked at her. Giving her that look. That look that I give her when I want to know what she has to say. All she did was nod her head and look away. She's keeping something from me.

"Az." I said bringing her eyes back to me. "Do need to tell me something?" I said looking at her intently. "No. - I mean what would I have to tell you. I'm proud of you. I'm glad you finally told your family. But I'm sorry it happened the way it did." She said quickly changing the subject.

I nodded my head. I know she's keeping something from me. That's not something Azzi usually does. We tell each other everything. She has been my best friend for 4 years now. I know everything about her and she knows everything about me.

"Do you want to go back to our dorm. And watch movies with me Paige and nik?" She said moving the conversation forwards. "Sure." I said simply. I havent seen nika yet today so I'm glad to get to spend some time with her. I got out of bed throwing on one of nikas hoodies over my t shirt. As it is getting colder by the day.

It's a short walk from my dorm to theirs but when we get there it's just Paige. She's sitting where she usually does on the couch. She doesn't say anything instead pulls azzi into the other room. I sit down on the couch attempting to listen in on what they're saying but I can't hear them due to the movie playing on the tv.

At that moment nika walks through the front door. She smiles when she sees me sitting on the couch. She hangs her keys up on the key rack near  front door and slips off her shoes before making her way over to me on the couch. She leant over kissing me on the lips before plopping down on the couch next to me.

I smiled as she pulled me closer to her. Draping an arm over my shoulder and entangling our legs together. "I missed you." She said as she kissed me on the top of my head that rested on her chest. "I missed you more." I said pulling her closer to me.

That's when Paige and Azzi came out of the other room. They both looked to nika first before sparing me a quick avoiding glance. There's something going on here but I just can't figure out what. They sat down and we started a movie. Not long after Azzi said she wanted popcorn and asked nika to help her in the kitchen.

Her and nika both got up and walked into the kitchen. I could hear the popcorn machine turn on. And not long after the sound of hushed arguing. Paige looked to me hearing the same thing I was before she hurried off to the kitchen. I waited a moment before following behind her and leaning my head against the door to the kitchen.

"You need to tell her now nika. I'm sick of keeping this from her." I could hear Azzi bitterly say. "I will." Nika said shortly. "When?" Azzi spat back. "I'm trying okay it's not that easy." Nika said letting out an exasperated sigh.

"Well hurry up because if you don't tell her I will." Azzi said shortly ending the conversation.

I set myself back down on the couch. Acting as if I didn't just hear there whole conversation.

What ever is going on I don't like that they're all not telling me what's going on. I'm going to find out one way or another.
