I can't feel my legs anymore but I don't dare to move. He looks so peaceful, so calm as he sleeps with his head resting on my lap. His breathing is steady and calm. I smile at the sight, as I gently move my fingers through his hair.
I can feel a slight pain arising from my lower back but I keep my posture up, not wanting to disturb his sleep, especially when he looks so at peace. His chest is rising and falling at a steady pace.
He looked tired the whole day, I don't want him to wake up, it's only been two hours since he drifted off to sleep. I'll stay like this the whole night if I have to as long as he's comfortable.
I can't help but worry about his odd behaviour.
His late night drinking, his frequent headaches and also those pills. Something is going on with him, maybe he's forming an alcoholic addiction.
That makes sense. He moves slightly, I watch as his eyelashes flutter, slowly his eyes opens. He blinks as he sees me, I stop moving my fingers, he immediately sits up and looks at me. He rubs his eyes, as his jaw tightens.
"Is your headache okay?" I ask, worried. "Are you feeling dizzy anymore?"
"I'm fine." He gets up from the couch and walks towards his desk. "Why did you let me sleep?" He clenches his jaw as he looks down at me still sitting on the couch. "We were supposed to be working."
"How you would've work with a headache that almost had you collapsed?" I cross my arms as I get up, taking a step closer to him.
"That's none of your concern." He shoots a glare at me with his sharp eyes, completely opposite of the boy who looked so peaceful just a moment ago.
"If your headache is affecting the work then it is my concern." I say as if this isn't an absolute bullshit. He is far more important to me than work.
"Don't worry, it won't happen again." He says.
"Devin, is something going on?"
His scowl changes into a serious expression. "What do you mean, huh?"
"You've been acting weird lately..." I try not to sound concerned. "Like... something is bothering you.."
"You're talking nonsense.." He snaps. "Nothing is weird... you're thinking too much." He looks away. "I'm completely fine and normal."
I clench my jaw and sigh, knowing he's hiding something but I don't push him too much, leaving it for now. "It's late." I say. "We should head home." I walk towards the door and feel him following me.
We both step out of the elevator, walking towards our cars. I unlock my car and open the door. I watch as he does the same, I think for a moment but can't stop myself from speaking.
