CHAPTER
TWENTY EIGHT

"Call me when the party's over."

Once Heejin entered the venue where the banquet was held. She noticed reporters were also at the banquet. Taking another deep breath as she walked to an area where there were fewer people. "Heejin!" She turned around and saw Jaeyun. A smile grew on her face. "You're here, too?" He nodded. "Of course, your mother invited me, and I can not go. It would be impolite of me." She muttered, "You haven't changed much."

"What was that? Sorry, I didn't hear you. It's a bit loud here." She shook her head. "Nothing. Just nothing." They walked to where the beverages and cakes were. Jaeyun picked up a glass of punch before giving it to her. "Here, punch." She shook her head. "Actually, I would like a glass of Tokaji." She grabbed a glass of wine next to the punches. He raised one of his eyebrows. "Wine? That's the first." She shrugged as she stirred the glass. "There is a first for everything, and I did drink this wine before in New York."

"Heejin, what is the matter?" He asked. She looked at him. "What do you mean?" "You don't drink wine." She raised her eyebrows. "Are you saying I never tasted wine before?" He shook his head. "That's not what I mean. You don't usually drink wine, especially at banquets. What's on your mind?" "I'm fine, Jaeyun. Don't worry. Nothing is on my mind. I just want to drink wine for a change."

Jaeyun put down the glass of punch in his hands before taking her glass as she was about to take a drink. Heejin raised her eyebrows. "What was that for?" He looked at her with a serious expression. "You're not going to drink. You aren't okay, and you shouldn't drink when you aren't in your right mind." She scoffed before muttering, "Says you who drank when you weren't in your right mind years ago." He sighed before taking her wrist and pulled her out of the ballroom. "Jaeyun, where are we going?" She asked.

"Somewhere not here," he told her. "But—" "No buts, we are going," he interpreted her. She bit the inside of her lips as she let him pull them out of the ballroom. Wondering where on earth he was taking them. She then realized they were at the parking lot. "Sit in the car." He pointed at the passenger side of his car. She nodded, taking a big gulp before entering the car. Jaeyun was surprisingly very calm, which made Heejin very nervous. He didn't seem to be mad, but she knew he was, in fact, mad. The drive to wherever was uncomfortably quiet.

Maybe she shouldn't have said those words back in the venue's ballroom. She turned on her phone and saw messages from her mother. She sighed before pressing the off button without replying to her mother. Her mother can wait even if it will make her pissed. As they drove through the city, Heejin looked through the window. Feeling suddenly tired, she fell asleep as she was resting on the window.

Heejin felt a tap on her shoulder, making her wake up. She hummed in response as she slowly sat up from the window. "We are here," Jaeyun told her. She nodded before rubbing her eyes. "Where are we?" He got out of the car before walking to her side of the car. Then he opened the passenger's door.

"Another favorite place of mine when I need time alone," he told her. She looked around and saw some fairy lights gleaming through the night. "Woah, this looks so beautiful," she said as she got out of the car. He nodded before walking ahead of her. She followed him shortly.

Jaeyun stopped in front of a patio. "Sit down anywhere, I will be back." He quickly left the inside of the building while Heejin sat down in a seat closer to the outside. She looked around her, admiring the sky. He came back with a tray. On the tray were two hot chocolates and two small muffins. He put the tray in front of them before distributing them.

Heejin took the mug in front of her before blowing on her, then took a sip of the chocolate. "Is there milk?" He nodded in reply. "I know you love milk, so I ask for extra." A smile grew on her as she took another sip. "It's better than wine, right?" He asked after he took a sip of his. She thought for a second before slowly nodding. They sat in each other's silence and drank their hot chocolate.

"So what's..." he closed his lips, thinking how to say it. Heejin took a breath before putting her mug, which was half full, on the table. "A lot of things, Jaeyun. I don't want to talk about it." He nodded before standing up and sat next to her. "You can rest on my shoulders. You don't have to say anything. We can stay like this as long as you wish." She leaned her head on his shoulder. Letting her eyes close on their own, she took another breath. Letting her thoughts slow down in her head. Letting the peace take over her body.

Letting her rest for the first time in a long time. "Thank you, Jaeyun. I appreciate you and everything that you did for the longest time. Thank you for being a friend I never ever deserve," she said before falling asleep. Jaeyun looked at her with his eyes, only wondering a lot of things.

He kept it inside as he knew she would tell him when it was the right time or when she was ready. He took his blazer that he took off a while ago before putting it over her body to keep her warm from the cold night breeze. Then he made himself more comfortable without waking her up before checking on emails and some case notes on his phone.
