CHAPTER THIRTY Clues for one and blind for another
Thank you, hyung," Sunghoon said for the nth time as he took the hangover drink from him. It was the next morning. Jaeyun helped him to his bedroom and cleaned up some of his mess so that when he woke up the following morning; he wouldn't be too stressed out. He looked at his friend, who was curling up into a ball like a child, as he gave him some hangover soup. "Anytime." He sat down in front of his friend.
Sunghoon chuckled, "I am sorry for how messy I am and my apartment." Jake shook his head. "It's not that bad and don't worry about it. That's what friends are for," he reassured his friend. His friend nodded but felt so guilty for being a huge mess. Jaeyun noticed his friend looking down. He patted him before getting the empty bowl and went to the kitchen to wash it.
After Jaeyun finished, he went back to Sunghoon's bedroom and sat down on the edge of the bed again. "So what was the thing that you called me for?" His friend's eyes widened before getting off the bed. He disappeared for a minute before reappearing with a black shoe box. "Before I went home after the funeral, Seojin gave me this box and asked me to personally give it to you when the time is right. Today is Sooah's 27th birthday, so I think it is the right time to give it to you."
Jaeyun took the box from his hold and stared at it. It was already Sooah's birthday. He didn't realize how many years had gone by. Tears suddenly rolled down his cheeks as he remembered those high school memories.
Sunghoon gently patted his back. "Jaeyun, it's okay, let it all out." He hugged his friend tightly, letting him cry in his arms as his heart ached from seeing his friend so miserable for the first time in years. His friend has numbed most of his pain ever since Sooah died. He only cried alone in the dark of his bed late at night while being happy in the morning to the evening even though it was hard.
After crying, Jaeyun wiped his tears before smiling at his friend. "Thank you, Sunghoon." His friend smiled. "It was nothing at all. This is what friends are for," Sunghoon told him. He nodded. "Right." He paused before continuing, "Could you tell me why you drank? What happened before you drank?"
"Oh gosh, I thought you forgot about it." His friend awkwardly scratched the back of his neck with an awkward smile before continuing. "Well, yesterday I had a big acting role, but I missed that because my girlfriend broke up with me before I had to go to work. We had a huge argument, which led to our emotions getting out of control, and she started to mention my parents. Which pissed me off and I almost slapped her. I realized it before I slapped her. She then told me to break up with her before running out of the apartment." Tears rolled down after he finished.
Jaeyun quickly hugged his friend. He didn't speak a word, just hugged his friend as he knew it meant more than just empty words. This moment reminded him of when, in high school, he had an argument with Sooah, and Sunghoon was there with him. His friend scolded him and comforted him at the same time. He told his friend his feelings for her.
Only a few know about his feelings towards Sooah.
They hugged a bit longer before slowly breaking the hug. Both of them looked at each other before giving nods to one another. Knowing what each other is thinking. Jaeyun got up, gathering his things and the black box before looking at his friend. "I wish you the best of luck, Jake," his friend said. He gave him a nod one last time before walking out of the room and out of the apartment.
Heejin was driving to her blind date that her mother forced her to go to. She didn't wear anything fancy or even dress up so pretty since she didn't want to go in the first place, and she had some business to attend to before the date.
Once she arrived, she parked her car before walking inside the fancy restaurant her mother reserved for the date. She went up to the host. "I made a reservation." The host nodded before looking through the computer. "What is the name?" "Yang." The host nodded again. "Alright, follow me to your seat."
Heejin followed the host to the VIP section and into an empty room. She thanked the host before entering. "Your server will be with you in a little while," the host informed her before walking away after putting down two menus. She took one of the menus and read through it as she waited for her blind date. "Oh, you're here already." She looked up and saw a man. Guessing he was her blind date, she gave him a nod before looking at the menu again.
"I'm Roh Hwan," he introduced himself to her before taking his seat. She just gave him a nod. "You're not a talker, I see," he muttered as he took the second menu into his hands. The server came, and they told their orders. After the server left, they sat in silence. Heejin stared through the window, and Hwan looked at his phone.
"Could you at least tell me your name?" He broke the silence. She looked at him with a blank expression. "I'm Yang Heejin. As you probably know from my mother," she said. He nodded. "Nice to meet you, Heejin." He took out his hand to shake. She stared at the hand before bowing. "I am sorry for my mother forcing you to go on this blind date."
He shook his head. "It's okay. My mother was also involved." There was silence in between them before the food arrived. "So what do you do?" He asked, breaking the silence between them. Heejin put down her spoon and wiped her mouth with the linen napkin. "I'm a violinist."
Hwan's eyes widened, "Oh really? What is your favorite piece?" She thought for a second before answering in English with her Australian accent, "Suite Bergamasque, L. 75 III. Clair de Lune."
"It sounds so pretty," he said. Heejin nodded in agreement. "It's really beautiful. I played it for a huge competition back in my graduate school years. It's also a popular piano and violin piece."
The server came with their orders. They began to eat in silence. "Let me get this straight, I am not looking for anyone to date or marry," she bluntly told him as she took a bite of her dish. He nodded. "Understandable, I am not either since I am still getting my doctorate to become a pediatrician."
Heejin nodded. "Do you like children?" Hwan smiled when she mentioned children. "I love them so much." She smiled slightly. "You seem very passionate from looking at your expression and the way to talk when I mentioned it." He looked at her a bit confused. "What do you mean?" She shook her head. "It's nothing much, but I am sure you will do well."
She took more bites out of her dish before standing up. "I have to go soon since I have some other business to attend to. It was nice to talk to you, Hwan." She gave him a bow before gathering her things and leaving the store. She unlocked her car once she was near it and went inside. Leaning against the car seat, she took a deep breath before turning on the engine.
