Jules sighed as she walked down the quiet street, the setting sun casting long shadows on the sidewalk. It had been a long day at UA. Between the non-stop training and the mounting tension about tomorrow's Sports Festival, her mind was all over the place. She absentmindedly fiddled with the necklace around her neck—the one the Phoenix had given her.
A soft hum emanated from the pendant, its energy soothing yet intense. Jules had never figured out how or why the Phoenix had gifted her this particular piece, but she suspected it was to remind her of its constant presence. As if she needed a reminder.
Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted when a loud, unmistakable voice boomed from somewhere nearby.
"HEEEEY, JULES! LONG TIME NO SEE, SPARKLEFLAME!"
Jules blinked and turned around, her heart nearly leaping out of her chest. Standing a few feet away, casually leaning against a lamppost as if he belonged there, was none other than Deadpool. Yes, that Deadpool—decked out in his iconic red-and-black suit, katanas strapped to his back, and an uncharacteristically large grin spread across his face.
"...Wade?" Jules asked hesitantly, taking a cautious step back. "What... what are you doing here? In Japan?"
"Oh, you know..." Deadpool began, his hands gesturing wildly as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Just thought I'd take a nice stroll, maybe grab some sushi, ninja stars, find a manga artist to make me into an Isekai protagonist—WAIT, THAT'S NOT RIGHT— I mean, support my favorite Phoenix baby before her big sports day!" He leaned in close, his voice dropping to a mock whisper. "Or did you forget you're a main character here, too?"
Jules stared at him, utterly baffled. "Wha... main character? Wade, you're not making any sense."
"Of course, I'm making sense!" He threw his hands up in the air, nearly smacking an innocent passerby in the face with his flailing. "I'm making dollars and cents! Heck, I'm making more sense than any of those Wattpad authors who decided it was a good idea to have Phoenix Force bonding fics! Speaking of—"
Jules's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, what? Wattpad? What are you talking about?"
Deadpool's masked face shifted toward her, and she swore she could see him smirking beneath the mask. He held up an invisible book, flipping through its non-existent pages.
"C'mon, don't tell me you haven't heard of The Phoenix by Night_lightxox1?!" He slapped the imaginary book shut and looked toward the sky. "Yo, Lighty! You're really making Jade go through all of that? Man, you're cruel! But hey, loved the angst, babe!" He threw in an exaggerated wink and two thumbs up.
Jules blinked. "What... what are you doing? Who are you talking to?"
"Ugh, forget it. You're like... anime-only right now, aren't you?" Deadpool sighed dramatically. "Don't worry, I tried to get in touch with the author. Thought I'd have a little chat about all these 'mysterious mother' plot twists and Phoenix Force angst, but nope! Got a 'no communication' sign flashing at me." He pointed a gloved finger at his head, making a buzzing noise. "Radio silence. Thanks a lot, Lighty! Way to leave a guy hanging!"
