i'll spend forever wondering
if you knew.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───the evening sun streamed through the window, casting a warm glow over the living room where billie and i were curled up on the couch. we had just finished dinner—takeout from our favorite place—leaving us pleasantly full and cozy. the atmosphere was easy and relaxed, filled with the soft hum of music playing in the background.
billie was scrolling through her phone, and i was leaning against her shoulder, absentmindedly tracing patterns on her arm with my fingertips. we had been dating for 5 months now, and every moment felt like it was tinged with something special, something that made my heart race a little faster.
"hey, can you believe how fast this year is going?" billie said, glancing down at me. "it feels like just yesterday we were still figuring this whole thing out."
"right?" i replied, looking up at her. "time flies when you're with someone you actually like."
she laughed softly, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "or someone who's really annoying," she teased, nudging me playfully.
"hey!" i exclaimed, feigning offense. "i'm not annoying. i'm charming."
"sure you are," she said, rolling her eyes but smiling. "charmingly annoying."
we both chuckled, and in that moment, i felt a rush of warmth—a certainty that i wanted to keep her in my life for as long as possible. we had shared so many wonderful memories in such a short time, and it was all starting to feel real.
"you know," i said, biting my lip, "i think i could get used to this. just... us."
billie looked at me, her expression softening. "me too. it's nice having someone who understands me."
as the words hung in the air, i felt a rush of emotion bubbling up inside me. i wanted to say it, to let the feeling spill out, but the thought made me nervous. what if she didn't feel the same way?
but before i could second-guess myself, i blurted out, "i love you."
the moment froze. billie's eyes widened in surprise, and i felt my cheeks flush as i realized what i had just said. the air was thick with anticipation as i waited for her response.
"you... love me?" she repeated slowly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"uh, yeah, i mean—" i stumbled over my words, panic rising. "i didn't mean to say it like that. i just—"
"no baby, it's okay," she interrupted, a smile breaking across her face. "i just didn't expect it, that's all."
i felt my heart race as she took a deep breath, and then she leaned in closer, her forehead resting against mine. "i love you more," she said, her voice soft but steady.
relief washed over me, and i couldn't help but grin. "really?"
"really," she replied, her smile widening. "i've been wanting to say it, but i didn't know if you were ready."
"well, i guess we're both ready then," i said, feeling giddy with happiness.
billie reached up and brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, her fingers lingering against my skin. "this is a big deal for me, you know. i don't just say that to anyone."
"i know," i said, my heart swelling at her words. "it means a lot."
and just like that, the tension in the air shifted to something lighter, more joyful. i leaned in and pressed my lips against hers, the kiss sweet and tentative at first, but quickly deepening as we melted into each other.
pulling back slightly, i looked into her eyes, feeling a rush of affection. "so... what now?"
"now," billie said, her grin mischievous, "we celebrate with ice cream."
"sounds perfect," i replied, laughter bubbling up as i wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her closer. "i love you, and i love ice cream."
"me too," she said, her laughter echoing in the cozy room. "but mostly the love part."
with that, we stood up together, hands intertwined, ready to step into the next chapter of our relationship, both excited and a little nervous about what was to come.

i was enchanted to meet you.
