i'll spend forever wondering
if you knew.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───it's christmas morning, and the soft glow of the tree lights casts a warm hue across the living room. the smell of cinnamon and pine fills the air, and the sound of soft christmas music plays in the background. i'm curled up on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, watching billie move around the room as she checks on the gifts under the tree.
it's our first christmas together, just the two of us. no big family gathering, no flashing cameras or award shows—just us, in the comfort of our home, wrapped in the peace of the holiday.
"you're hogging all the blankets," billie teases, glancing over her shoulder at me, a grin tugging at her lips. she's wearing a pair of fuzzy reindeer socks and one of my oversized sweatshirts, and i can't help but smile at how adorable she looks.
"you're the one who didn't bring your own," i reply, laughing as i toss her one of the extra blankets. she catches it, wrapping it around her shoulders as she makes her way over to me.
"i like yours better," she says, plopping down beside me and snuggling close. her head rests on my shoulder, and i feel her relax, the weight of everything lifting as we settle into the moment.
"merry christmas," i whisper, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear.
she smiles, her eyes soft as she looks up at me. "merry christmas, baby."
we sit there for a while, just enjoying the quiet. the tree lights twinkle, and the world outside feels so far away. it's just us, in this bubble of warmth and love, and i don't think i've ever been this content.
"i got you something," billie says after a while, sitting up a little.
"billie," i groan playfully, "we said we weren't doing big gifts this year."
"i know, i know," she says, reaching under the couch and pulling out a small box, "but it's not big, i swear."
i look at her, raising an eyebrow. "you always do this."
she laughs, holding the box out to me. "just open it."
i take the box, my fingers grazing the wrapping paper, and as i peel it away, i find a small, simple bracelet inside. it's delicate, with a tiny charm engraved with our initials.
"billie..." i breathe, my heart swelling at the sight of it.
"it's not much," she says, her voice softer now, "but i just wanted you to have something you can wear, something to remind you of us. no matter where we are."
i feel tears prick at the corners of my eyes, and i reach for her hand, lacing our fingers together. "it's perfect."
she smiles, leaning in to press a kiss to my lips. "i'm glad you like it."
we sit there, wrapped up in each other, the world outside the windows dusted with snow, the soft sounds of christmas filling the room. it's simple, quiet, and more perfect than i ever imagined.
"this," i whisper, looking at her, "is all i ever wanted."
