The thunderstorm rumbled outside, shaking the walls of the Avengers compound as I sat up in bed, my heart racing. The echoes of my nightmare still lingered in my mind, vivid and haunting, as I ran a trembling hand through my hair. I could feel the dampness of the sheets beneath me, a mix of sweat and the remnants of fear that clung to my skin.

Beside me, Thor stirred, his presence a comforting weight in the darkness. He was my rock, my protector, but the echoes of the dream clung to me like a shroud. I could hear the memories of my nightmare—a world crumbling, shadows swallowing everything I held dear. I couldn't shake the feeling of dread that clung to me like a second skin.

"Princess?" Thor's deep voice rumbled, thick with sleep as he turned to face me. His blue eyes sparkled in the faint light filtering through the window. "What troubles you?"

I hesitated, unsure if I should share the nightmare that had shaken me to my core. "Just a bad dream," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant, but my voice betrayed me, quivering slightly.

He propped himself up on one elbow, concern etching his features. "Tell me," he urged softly, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. "I wish to help ease your mind."

Sighing, I pulled the sheets closer around my shoulders, wishing I could find the strength to share my fears. "It was... it was about losing you," I confessed, my voice barely above a whisper. "You were fighting, and I couldn't reach you. I watched everything fall apart."

Thor's expression softened, and he moved closer, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me into the warmth of his embrace. "I am here, my princess. You need not worry. I will always return to you."

"But what if—" I started, but he pressed a finger to my lips.

"No 'what ifs,' my love," he said firmly, yet his voice remained soothing. "We are bound together. I will always fight for you, for us. You are my heart, and I will protect you with all my might."

I leaned into his chest, allowing myself to be enveloped by his strength. The sound of his heartbeat was like a lullaby, steady and reassuring. "I know, Thor. But sometimes, when I close my eyes, I can't help but see those dark images. It's like they're haunting me."

"Nightmares can be relentless," he agreed, brushing his fingers through my hair. "But you must remember that dreams are but shadows. They cannot harm you, not while I am by your side."

His words wrapped around me like a protective cloak, and I drew in a deep breath, finding solace in his presence. "You always know what to say to make me feel better."

"It is my duty to care for you, my princess," he replied, a hint of pride in his voice. "You are my queen, and I will always stand by your side."

I chuckled softly, allowing the tension in my chest to loosen slightly. "I'm not a queen, Thor. Just a regular person who gets scared at night."

"Then you are a regular person whom I adore," he replied, his gaze steady and earnest. "And I am honored to call you mine."

As the minutes passed, the storm began to fade, the rumble of thunder becoming less ominous, replaced by the soft patter of rain against the window. "Do you ever have nightmares?" I asked, curiosity overtaking my earlier fear.

Thor chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that made me smile. "Only of losing my hammer," he joked, though I could see a flicker of seriousness in his eyes. "But no, my love, I do not dream of such things. I am only troubled by the thoughts of my past."

I bit my lip, knowing that his history was fraught with pain and loss. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

He shook his head, his expression growing somber. "No, I wish to share. My past has shadows, as all lives do. I have lost much, and there are nights when the memories haunt me. But then I think of you, and the light you bring into my life. You are my anchor."

My heart swelled at his words. "You're my anchor too, Thor. I don't know what I would do without you."

He leaned closer, his forehead resting against mine, his breath warm against my skin. "Then let us banish these nightmares together. Let us fill our dreams with laughter and joy instead."

I nodded, feeling a sense of calm wash over me. "That sounds perfect."

As he pressed a gentle kiss to my lips, I melted against him, the world outside fading away. The warmth of his body against mine chased away the remnants of my fear, replacing it with something sweet and reassuring.

"Close your eyes, my princess," he murmured, brushing his thumb across my cheek. "I will protect you through the night."

As I settled back against him, cocooned in his arms, I felt the shadows of my nightmares dissipate, replaced by the comforting certainty that I was loved and cherished. I was safe.

"Goodnight, my love," Thor whispered, his voice a low rumble in the quiet room.

"Goodnight, Thor," I replied, allowing sleep to claim me, knowing that as long as he was by my side, there was nothing to fear.
