The warm glow of candlelight flickered across the dining table, casting soft shadows on the walls of their cozy apartment. Y/N had transformed their living space into a romantic haven, complete with rose petals scattered across the table and a playlist of soft jazz playing in the background. Tonight marked one year since she and Bucky had officially become a couple, and she wanted to make it special.
As she poured a glass of red wine, she heard the familiar sound of the front door opening. Bucky stepped inside, a smile spreading across his face as he caught sight of the lovingly arranged table. "Wow, Y/N, this looks incredible," he said, his eyes lighting up with appreciation.
"I wanted it to be memorable," she replied, heart fluttering at his praise. "We've had an amazing year together, and I thought we should celebrate it properly."
Bucky moved closer, wrapping his arms around her waist and planting a soft kiss on her forehead. "You always know how to make me feel special," he murmured, his voice a low rumble that sent shivers down her spine.
As they settled at the table, Bucky's gaze fell on the delicious meal she had prepared—her version of his favorite dish. "You really went all out," he teased, feigning shock as he took in the lavish spread.
"I wanted to remind you how much I care," Y/N said, her cheeks warming under his intense gaze. "So, let's dig in!"
They started their dinner, the conversation flowing easily as they reminisced about their time together. Each bite was infused with warmth, laughter, and the sweetness of shared memories.
"Do you remember our first date?" Y/N asked, chuckling as she recalled the awkwardness of that night.
"Of course! I thought I was going to scare you away with my 'mysterious soldier' routine," Bucky replied, shaking his head with a laugh. "I almost wore my tactical gear to dinner."
Y/N burst into laughter, her eyes sparkling. "I was honestly terrified you'd show up in that! But I think it worked out in my favor because you were charming as hell."
"And you were stunning," Bucky replied, his voice turning serious as he leaned closer. "I couldn't take my eyes off you."
Y/N felt a rush of warmth at his compliment. "It's hard to believe that was a year ago. It feels like we've known each other forever."
"Time flies when you're with the right person," Bucky said, reaching across the table to take her hand. His thumb caressed her skin, sending a rush of affection through her.
They continued to share stories, diving into their favorite moments of the past year—those spontaneous late-night drives, lazy weekends cuddled on the couch, and the quiet conversations that stretched into the early hours of the morning.
"Remember that time we got caught in the rain on that hike?" Y/N asked, laughter bubbling up at the memory.
"Of course!" Bucky said, shaking his head. "You insisted we keep going even as the clouds rolled in. And then we ended up soaked to the bone!"
Y/N grinned, the memory vivid in her mind. "It was the best! We were laughing so hard, I almost forgot I was drenched."
"That was one of my favorite days," Bucky admitted, his tone softening. "I love how you can find joy in the simplest things."
"Just like you find joy in rescuing dogs from trees," she quipped, and Bucky chuckled, a hint of embarrassment creeping into his smile.
"Hey, it was a hero moment!" he shot back, a playful glint in his eyes.
"More like an 'I-can't-believe-Bucky-did-that' moment!" Y/N teased, and they both burst into laughter again.
As the dinner wound down, Bucky leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "You know, I've been thinking about the future a lot lately," he said, his voice quieting.
Y/N's heart raced at the seriousness in his tone. "What do you mean?"
"I just... I want to be with you, Y/N. I want to build a life together," he said, sincerity radiating from him. "I know we've had some ups and downs, but this past year with you has been the happiest of my life."
Her breath caught in her throat, and she could feel her cheeks heat up. "I feel the same way, Bucky. You make everything brighter."
He nodded, his expression earnest. "I want to keep making memories with you. I see us traveling together, having lazy Sundays, and maybe even... a family one day."
Y/N's heart swelled at his words, a mixture of excitement and hope flooding her. "I dream about that too, Bucky. I want to explore the world with you, create a home filled with laughter."
Bucky smiled, his eyes shimmering with affection. "Then let's do it. Let's make plans. We can start with a trip to Italy next summer," he suggested, his enthusiasm contagious.
"Yes! That sounds amazing," Y/N replied, her heart racing at the thought of their adventures together.
"But for now," Bucky continued, his voice taking on a playful tone, "we should probably finish this incredible meal you made, or else I'll never hear the end of it."
With a shared smile, they returned to their dinner, savoring each bite and basking in the warmth of their love. As the night wore on, they moved from the table to the couch, wrapped in each other's arms, the faint sounds of the city filtering through the window.
"Y/N," Bucky said softly, breaking the comfortable silence. "I want to promise you something."
"Anything," she replied, gazing up at him, her heart fluttering.
"I promise to always support you, to always be your partner in everything. No matter what life throws our way, I'll be right there beside you," he vowed, his voice steady and sincere.
Tears brimmed in Y/N's eyes, overwhelmed by the depth of his love. "And I promise to be your biggest supporter, to cherish every moment we share together."
With that, they leaned in, sharing a kiss that sealed their promises, a testament to the bond they had forged over the past year. As they pulled away, Y/N nestled her head against Bucky's shoulder, feeling an overwhelming sense of belonging.
Under the twinkling stars and the soft glow of their home, they knew this was just the beginning of many beautiful chapters yet to come—a life filled with love, laughter, and endless adventures.
