Y/N's POV

The city was alive outside the window, the sounds of cars and chatter mingling with the distant hum of music from a nearby café. I sat on the couch in our small apartment, my heart pounding in my chest as I fiddled with my hands, rehearsing the words I wanted to say.

Peter was in the kitchen, his silhouette outlined by the soft glow of the overhead lights. He was always busy, always moving—whether it was chasing down bad guys or working on his latest invention. I admired that about him, but tonight felt different. Tonight, I wanted to talk about us.

The two of us had been together for almost a year, and while I cherished every moment we shared, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were dancing around something important. I needed to know what he envisioned for our future.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself as I finally called out to him. "Peter, can we talk?"

He paused, the clinking of dishes falling silent. "Sure! What's up?"

His cheerful tone sent a flutter of nerves through me. I wanted to keep this light, but I knew it wouldn't be. "It's about us... our future."

Peter's POV

I felt a knot tighten in my stomach at her words. I loved Y/N more than anything, but the idea of discussing our future was intimidating. As Spider-Man, my life was unpredictable, and I didn't want to drag her into that chaos.

I walked into the living room, leaning against the doorframe with a smile that I hoped looked casual. "Our future, huh? Sounds serious."

She met my gaze, and I could see the determination in her eyes. "I think it is serious, Peter. We've been together for a while now, and I feel like we need to talk about what comes next."

"What do you mean?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. "Are you talking about... moving in together or something?"

Her expression shifted slightly, the edge of her mouth turning down. "No, not just that. I mean, do you see us having a future? Like, long-term?"

Y/N's POV

I watched as Peter's expression changed, and I could see the wheels turning in his mind. He was always so good at avoiding difficult topics, and I needed to know if he was ready to face this one.

"I care about you so much, Peter," I continued, trying to maintain my composure. "I want to build a life with you, but I don't know if you want that too."

He shifted uncomfortably, his gaze dropping to the floor. "It's not that I don't want to... it's just complicated, you know?"

"Complicated how?" I pressed, feeling my frustration build.

He ran a hand through his hair, looking torn. "You know my life—being Spider-Man and all. I don't want to put you in danger. What if something happens to me? What if you get hurt because of me?"

Peter's POV

Her words hung in the air, and I could see the hurt in her eyes. I hated the idea of her feeling that way, but I couldn't shake the fear that had gripped me since I first donned the mask.

"I get that, but avoiding the conversation doesn't help," she replied, her voice steady despite the turmoil behind her eyes. "I just want to know where we stand."

I looked at her, the intensity of her gaze pulling at my heartstrings. "I'm scared, Y/N," I admitted, feeling a rush of vulnerability. "I want you in my life, but I also want to protect you. Sometimes it feels like those two things can't coexist."
