Y/N leaned back against the cool wall of the Avengers' compound, arms crossed tightly over her chest. The late afternoon sun filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground, but she felt cold inside. Vision was late—he was usually so punctual. They had plans for a quiet dinner, just the two of them, a moment to unwind from their hectic lives. But as the minutes ticked by, a growing sense of unease settled over her.
She pulled out her phone and scrolled through her messages, trying to distract herself. The sudden vibration of her phone jolted her. It was a notification from one of her friends, a video shared on social media. Curiosity piqued, she opened it. Her heart dropped as she watched the footage: Vision, standing with another woman, laughing and whispering intimately in a secluded corner of a crowded event.
Betrayal sliced through her like a knife.
As if the universe had conspired against her, she heard the familiar sound of his footsteps approaching. He rounded the corner, his face breaking into a radiant smile that faltered as he noticed her expression.
"Y/N, you're here!" he said, his voice warm and inviting. But she felt cold as ice.
"Yeah, I'm here." She couldn't meet his eyes, her heart racing with anger and hurt. "I saw a video."
His brow furrowed. "What video?"
"Don't play coy with me, Vision! The one of you and that woman. What's going on?"
His expression shifted from confusion to realization, and Y/N watched the warmth drain from his face. "Y/N, I—"
"Save it," she snapped, her voice trembling with emotion. "I thought we had something real. I thought you were different."
He took a step closer, his hands reaching out as if to soothe her, but she recoiled. "Please, let me explain."
"No!" She couldn't contain the hurt spilling from her voice. "You don't get to explain your way out of this. I trusted you!"
"Trust is not so easily broken," he said softly, pain etched in his features.
"Maybe you should have thought about that before you betrayed me." Her words hung heavy in the air, thick with disappointment.
"Y/N, it wasn't what it looked like," he insisted, desperation lacing his voice. "I was at a charity event. The woman is a friend who needed support—"
"Support?" she interrupted, her heart pounding with fury. "Is that what they call it now? Whispering sweet nothings and laughing together?"
"It's not like that!" He took a deep breath, trying to maintain his composure. "I would never intentionally hurt you. I care about you more than you know."
"Then why didn't you tell me?" Her voice broke slightly, revealing the vulnerability beneath her anger. "Why hide it?"
His gaze dropped to the ground, guilt weighing heavily on his shoulders. "I didn't want you to worry. I thought it was innocent."
"Innocent?" she repeated, the word bitter on her tongue. "Do you even hear yourself? This isn't just a misunderstanding; it's about trust. You should have known better."
The silence that followed felt deafening. Vision searched her face, his own filled with sorrow. "I never meant for it to come to this. I want to fix this. Please, just give me a chance."
Y/N shook her head, tears stinging her eyes. "I don't know if I can. You made me question everything we built together."
"Y/N, I love you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'd do anything to make this right."
"But can you?" she challenged, the weight of their situation crashing down on her. "Can you undo the damage?"
"Let me prove it," he pleaded. "I'll do whatever it takes."
Taking a step back, she felt the walls she'd built around her heart tightening. "I need time, Vision. Time to think."
He nodded slowly, his expression pained but understanding. "I'll give you all the time you need. Just know that I'm here, waiting for you."
As he walked away, leaving her in the fading light, Y/N felt a mixture of anger and heartbreak. She had never expected betrayal to come from someone she trusted so deeply. The vibrant future they had envisioned together now seemed clouded with uncertainty, and the painful truth lingered like a shadow over her heart.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Y/N stood alone, contemplating whether love could truly mend the fracture between them or if this was the end of their story.
