Chapter 31: New Beginnings in LA
The Last Match
The stadium buzzed with electric energy, fans swathed in the iconic blue and claret of FC Barcelona filling the stands. Banners waved and voices unified, chanting Y/N’s name in a chorus of love and admiration. This was more than a match—it was a tribute, a final salute to a player who had given her heart and soul to the club.
Y/N stood on the pitch, the weight of the moment sinking in. Her heart pounded, but not from nerves—from the bittersweet realization that this was her last game for Barcelona. She scanned the sea of faces, finding Dua among them, cheering with all her might, River perched on her hip with a tiny jersey that matched Y/N’s.
“Let’s go, Y/N! Show them what you’ve got!” Dua’s voice rang clear, even amidst the cacophony.
A smile broke through Y/N’s concentrated expression, and with a deep breath, she readied herself.
The whistle blew, and the match commenced. Y/N moved across the field with precision and determination, every touch of the ball carrying the weight of her legacy. She weaved through defenders, a maestro orchestrating the game’s rhythm, her teammates feeding off her energy.
With only minutes remaining, Y/N received a perfect pass at the edge of the box. She steadied herself, took a shot—and the ball curled beautifully into the top corner. The stadium erupted in celebration.
Tears welled up as she turned to face the roaring crowd. This was the perfect ending—a final, unforgettable contribution.
The Emotional Farewell
The final whistle blew, signaling the end of the match and Y/N’s career with FC Barcelona. Her teammates surrounded her, pulling her into emotional embraces, and the crowd’s applause didn’t falter for a moment.
“Thank you, Y/N!” they chanted, their voices filled with admiration.
Dua rushed onto the field, River in tow, and immediately wrapped Y/N in a tight hug. “I’m so proud of you,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Y/N pressed a kiss to Dua’s forehead, a tear slipping down her cheek. “I’m going to miss this,” she admitted, her voice barely audible.
Dua cupped her face gently. “It’s not the end—just a new beginning.”
The head coach approached, clapping her on the back. “You’ve left a mark here, Y/N. Barcelona will always be your home.”
A New Opportunity
A few days later, their Barcelona apartment was a mess of half-packed boxes and scattered belongings. Between the excitement of new opportunities and the pang of leaving behind familiar comforts, the atmosphere was charged with mixed emotions.
Y/N held her phone, re-reading the offer from Angel City FC in LA. “It’s surreal,” she muttered, more to herself than to anyone else.
Dua approached, wrapping her arms around Y/N from behind. “It’s a big step, but I think it’s the right one,” she said softly. “LA feels right, for both of us.”
Y/N turned to face her, searching Dua’s eyes. “You’re not worried? About being back in LA, where... you know, everything with Elizabeth happened?”
Dua’s gaze softened. “I know it’s a lot, but we’re together now. LA isn’t about the past—it’s about our future, with River and Oscar.”
Y/N nodded slowly, her resolve strengthening. “You’re right. It’s time to build new memories.”
