Chapter 35
Y/N sat on a bench, enjoying the quiet hum of the park. River was on the ground, waddling around while Oscar stretched out at her feet. The autumn air was crisp, the kind that made you want to stay outside just a little longer. She took a deep breath and relaxed, watching River toddle along, occasionally glancing over at her dog.
Oscar, however, had other plans. With a sudden burst of energy, he jumped up and took off across the field. Y/N sighed, but smiled to herself. "Bluey, come back here!" she called half-heartedly, knowing full well Oscar would tire himself out soon enough.
On the other side of the park, Elizabeth was sitting quietly on another bench. Lucky, her dog, seemed just as restless as Oscar, and with little warning, he bolted after the other dog. Elizabeth chuckled softly, shaking her head as she watched Lucky make a run for it.
At that moment, Y/N turned her attention to River. He was tugging at her sleeve, signaling that he was thirsty. She opened his little water bottle and handed it to him, glancing back in the direction Oscar had run off.
River Atlas's POV:
At the park! Me and Mama and Bluey. Mama's not looking, so I run, run, run! I see her! Wizze! She's the lady from the Hattie Harmony book! My favorite! Mama told me Wizze gave me my name, Atlas. She's a nice lady.
I run faster. Bluey and Lucky are playing but I want to talk to Wizze! She's sitting with her hat, like in the book! I stop right in front of her, big smile on my face.
"Me Atlas!" I tell her, and she looks at me with a funny face. "You gip me name!" I show her my shirt with Hattie Harmony on it. She looks at it, and then at me, and I see her eyes get bigger.
She knows me!
---
Elizabeth's POV:
I was enjoying the quiet when I noticed a little boy running toward me. I didn't recognize him at first, but something about him made me pause. Then he stopped right in front of me, proudly announcing, "Me Atlas!"
Atlas? That name.
My heart skips a beat when he points to his shirt-Hattie Harmony. Oh God, it's Y/N's son. Our favorite book when we were together.
"You... you're River Atlas?" I manage to ask, trying to keep my voice steady.
He nods eagerly, pointing again at his shirt. "You gip me name," he says with a toothy grin.
I can't help but smile. He looks so much like Y/N, it's almost surreal. My mind is racing, but there's a warmth in my chest, seeing this little boy that I once only imagined in another life. He reminds me so much of Y/N, it's like I'm staring at a piece of her.
Then I hear it-a familiar bark. Oscar. My eyes drift up, and there, not too far off, I spot Y/N, running toward us with a look of panic on her face.
---
Oscar's POV:
I see him! My favorite hooman! He's with some strange lady, but I don't like it. River shouldn't be too far from Mama. I bark. That'll get Mama's attention.
I run faster, the other dog's next to me, but I don't care. I need to make sure River is okay. Mama's coming too-I bark again, louder this time.
---
Y/N's POV:
I suddenly realized River wasn't where I left him. My heart dropped. "River? River!" I shouted, standing up and looking around frantically. I didn't see him. Where did he go? My mind started to race as I scanned the park, looking for any sign of my baby boy.
