Your first day of flying lessons came and you were nervous. You'd never ridden a broom before. You weren't sure what to do or how you'd handle it. The ground made you feel secure, so being in the air on a broom you weren't exactly sure how to control was a bit terrifying.
You showed up to the lesson, picking one of the brooms. Mattheo soon joined you on one side, not saying anything. The wind picked up, filling the silence for a briet moment as it tousled your hair and clothes.
You decided to speak up. "Have you flown before?
On a broom, I mean."
"Yeah. For a few years now." He nodded as he looked over at you.
You nodded back for a second before looking down at your broom. "I haven't."
"It's easy." He said and shrugged.
"Hope so." You muttered to yourself.
Madam Hooch came up to the group of students and started her lesson. She had all the students stand with the brooms on the ground and try commanding it to come to their hands with the word 'up?
Should've been simple, really. It's one word. A few kids get it pretty quickly, even instantly. And here you were trying to command the broom 'up.
"You gotta relax" Mattheo said from your right. He got his broom up instantly and had just been watching you and the other students struggle for a few minutes.
"I'm relaxed." You said before telling the broom 'up' again.
"You're nervous."
"I told you I haven't ridden a broom before. Of course I'm nervous." You said.
"You're acting like Madam Hooch is gonna make you go as high as the castle on the broom right now." He said and you could hear the slight amusement in his voice.
"I know she isn't, but-"
"One step at a time." He cut you off.
"Huh?" You looked over at him.
"Stop overthinking and just do it one step at a time.
Don't think about flying just yet. Just focus on this one little command." He said, putting his broom back down and commanding it up again. "Just focus on doing that."
You looked back at your broom. He's right. You're focusing too much on what will happen after and it's making you more nervous than you should be. You let out a sigh before commanding it up again. It didn't make it to your hand, but it did move this time. You smiled at seeing the small response and commanding it again. It finally came to your hand after a few more tries and you laughed.
"I did it!" You looked back over at Mattheo, now holding your broom.
"Told you." He said, glancing down at the broom in your hand before looking back up to your eyes.
"I'm still terrified to fly." You said, letting out a nervous chuckle.
"It'll be fine." He said, looking back at the other students still struggling.
You gave him a small distracted 'uh huh' as you tried to calm yourself.
After a few more minutes of everyone trying with their brooms, Madam Hooch told everyone to mount their brooms and just barely lift off the ground. You followed her instructions and mounted the broom, but hesitated on the 'lifting off the ground' part.
"You're overthinking this too much." Mattheo said.
You looked over at him to see him sitting on his broom, already off the ground.
"I...know. I'm just-hold on." You said, turning back to look at the broom.
He held his hands up in surrender, rolling his eyes as he looked over to the other students. Most students have done it by now, a few others were scared, like you. You took a deep breath and tried to lift off the ground, but your feet wouldn't budge from the ground.

FanfictionI will be putting warnings in all chapters, what house you are in, etc. I really am trying to make the plots good but I'm not very good at grammar. If I get an idea from a creator I will tag them. I change between "I" and "you" in different chapters...
