The Mafia
Athena's POV
"Dito nalang!" Sigaw ko saka lumabas na ng kotse ni Lorraine.
I was utterly terrified as I stepped inside my own hospital.
The unsettling quiet, once bustling with protesters, now eerily silent, sent a shiver down my spine. The absence of the usual chaos should have been a relief, but instead, it heightened my anxiety.
My heart raced as if sensing that something far worse was looming, something I couldn’t control. But I couldn’t afford to let my mind spiral now.
How did everything come to this point?
It all happened so quickly.
Right after my peaceful day spent bonding with Lorraine, a single notification shattered my world—Jezreel had been attacked by the very people who had previously tried to kidnap Samantha.
My stomach dropped as I read that she had been brought to my hospital. The place where I was supposed to heal others now felt like a battlefield, and Jezreel was caught in the crossfire.
I wasn’t sure if I was already too late or if there was still time. But every second felt like a lifetime, and I prayed with every fiber of my being that it wasn’t too late.
Mayroon na ring mga network reporters na tila ay nag-aabang ng maipapahayag na balita tungkol kay Jezreel.
Tsk. Really. Kahit sa ganitong sintuwasyon ay habulin siya ng camera.
“Good afternoon, Doc Athena—”
“Do we have a patient named Jezreel Ybañez?” I didn’t wait for pleasantries, cutting off the nurse at the front desk, my voice trembling with urgency.
“Let me check—”
“Hurry! Please, hurry!!” My panic was palpable, the desperation evident in my shaking hands as I slammed them onto the counter.
My mind raced ahead of me, picturing the worst-case scenario, while my heart pounded in my chest.
As I anxiously scanned the lobby, my eyes locked onto Lorraine entering the building, her face pale with worry.
Behind her, Jamie and the rest of our relatives streamed in, their expressions mirroring the fear I felt.
Jezreel’s mother, who had always been composed, now looked visibly shaken, her eyes darting around in search of answers.
“She’s in the emergency room—” the nurse began, but I couldn’t wait any longer.
The moment I heard the words, I bolted down the corridor, my feet barely touching the ground as I ran.
My breath came in ragged gasps, but I didn't care. All that mattered was reaching Jezreel, praying that she was still fighting, still holding on.
Each step I took felt heavier, like the weight of my worst fears pulling me down. But I couldn’t stop. I had to see her. I had to know she was okay.
She looked like a mess, her white dress stained with fresh blood at maging braso niya ay pisngi ay mayroon dugo na halatang hindi galing sa kanya.
