Today is Friday. You know what that means?? Jamal's first game as the Captain of the football team. Football in Miami is serious business. People go crazy if their team wins, and nuts if their team looses. Jamal jersey number is 22. That number means a lot to him and our family.
I'm already dressed for today. I have on black leggings, with a purple flowy shirt that stops right above me knees, and black and purple Nikes. I left my hair down since today it won't be hot as shizz in Miami. I walk down stairs into the kitchen and say hi to Uncle Mike. Today is cereal day for breakfast. I grab my Berry Captain Crunch and pour myself a bowl. Jamal enters the kitchen followed by Jeremiah with Jaden on his back.
"Sophy!!! I feel better thanks to you and Andre." Jaden takes the seat next to me.
"Andre was here yesterday?" Jamal asks while fixing a bowl of Frosted Flakes
"Imma told him I was taking care Jaden so he stopped by with stuff to make homemade chicken soup. He helped me with Jaden and washed dishes." Jamal nods his head.
"Me and Uncle Mike have yet to meet him" Jeremiah voices.
"Oh I already did. I pulled a gun on him twice and scared the s*it out of him." Uncle Mike similes proudly remembering what he did last night.
"What I missed that?" Jamal and Jeremiah say at the same time before laughing.
"Jamal I got the night off so I will be at your game tonight. We all will be there cheering you on." Uncle Mike pats him on the shoulder.
"I'm happy you all will be watching." Jamal smiles at all of us. We finish eating breakfast and go our separate ways. Jamal barely talks on the ride to school. I know he is thinking about Mom and Dad not being here.
"They would be super proud of you Mally. They love you so much and just want you happy." I give him a hug when he gets out the car.
He hugs me back and smiles. "You always know what to say to calm me down."
We walk into school and go our separate ways. I walk into my Literature pretty early and just sit down to look out the window. The way the sun is shunning behind the clouds gives me a feeling that our parents are sending us a message. I text Jamal and tell him to look at the sky. He responds with 'I always knew they are watching us'. I smile and put my phone on silent. More students make their way into class. I look in the doorway and see Andre and Nicole talking. He seems annoyed while she seems frustrated. She walks away angry and Andre enters the class.
He sits down in his seat next to me but stays quite. I decide to break the silence. "Want to talk about it?"
He takes a deep breath before his gray eyes met mine. "Nicole is pushing me to be with her but she won't take no for an answer."
"Why not ignore her? You don't have to let people get to you. If you don't want to be with he then don't. You shouldn't stress yourself on what the world wants. What about what you want? You should be happy since its your own life."
Andre turns to me and smiles "You give great advice. Thanks" I smile at him. "By the way you look nice today. You look good with your hair down."
"Thank you." Class starts and we talk about Romeo and Juliet for two hours. I meet up with Imma and Tonii outside.
"I'll see you around Sophia." Andre says while trying to walk away from three of us. Sadly it isn't work.
"Hey jerk off. Why don't you join us for lunch?" Tonii asks Andre making him stop in his tracks.
"You don't have a choice. We will see you outside under the big tree" Imma sends him her famous death glare as we walk away. We walk into the service office and sign our names on the list. Today we are delivering papers around the school to teachers.
