Jamal leads me down the main hallway while he nod his head towards a lot of his football buddies. A few people walk up to us and soon Jamal is in  conversation about this football season and what girls broke up with their boyfriend during the summer. I decide to head into the office and grab our schedules for the year. Mrs. Smith is there again. I swear the school throws her a retirement party at the end of every school yet, yet she shows back up the following school year.

"Well if it isn't Miss Sophia Taylor!" she says excitedly from behind her secretary desk.

"Hi Mrs. Smith. You look as lovely as ever. I see you cut your hair and colored it. Light brown looks great on you. I would have sworn it was your daughter and not you until I saw the name tag." I tell her as I approach her desk and give her a huge hug. Am I sucking up?? Yes I am. I have good reason to. You see Mrs. Smith controls the school. Things don't run if she isn't in charge. She gives me hall passes, detention exclusion letters, even helps me get the classes I want when I want them. Plus her grand daughter is in the Girl Scouts and those cookies come in handy when I need to bribe Uncle Mike.

"Awe. Sophia so sweet as ever and you seem to get more beautiful every time I see you.. Here to pick up you and Jamal's schedule for the school year." I nod in response. She loves to the box containing the schedules and I take the time to study her. She is a fair skinned woman in her 60's but stays in shape. Her eyes are a deep gray and some times look dark purple in the sun light. She always has her thin framed glasses on and they bring out the roundness of her face in a good way. Makes her look like the average grandmother even. Her once black long hair as been dyed light brown and cut just below her shoulders. Today she is wearing one of her many flowing skirts. She must have really enjoyed the hippie stage of life. Her husband works as the biology teacher. My freshmen year I found them making out in the Janitor's closet and laughed for weeks every time I say them. But they both are still in love even after 40 years of marriage.

"Here you go sweet heart. Tell your family I said hello. And please remind Jamal the school will not deal with another toilet paper accident like last year." She says as she hands me the schedules.

" I will make sure he knows. Thank you." I take the schedules and leave the office laughing. I remember Jamal and a few foot ball friends took all the toilet paper from the school and covered the entire baseball bleacher in it. He even made baseball players from the toilet paper and set them on the field.

I see Jamal tell his friends bye as he walks towards me. "What's your schedule Sophy?" he asks as he glances over his schedule. "Mm AP Economics, Honors Lierature , Marine Biology, Service, Cooking level 3, Advanced Art, Ceramics, and Study Hall." I smile happy I got all my choices this year.

"What?!?! How did you get 5 electives out of 8 classes?" Jamal asks with a look of shock in his eyes.

"Technically I have 6. Marine Biology is my elective. I didn't need a science so I choose that class cause it seems so interesting. What's your schedule."

"AP American History, Shop level 2, Chemistry, Algebra, Cooking level 2, English Language, College Prep, and Gym. Do you know what this means??" He says smiling at me?

Shaking my head no after I come up with nothing. "It means I have Cooking with you and I can use your notes from last year on AP American History,  and Chemistry." He responds as we make our way to our lockers.

"How in the world do you always manage to get the locker next to mine?" I ask as I open my locker and put my lock on it.

"I have my ways!" he says winking at me.

"By the way I am not giving you my notes in those classes. You need to do the work yourself."

"what's the point in having an older sister if she doesn't do your work for you." He says as he gives me his pouty face.
