Jody POV
The morning after I had knocked out Will Dixon, me and the dixon brothers were sat on the sofa, impatiently waiting for him to wake up. Like every day, he'd get up and go to the bar. But if he remembered what I had done, he'd surely beat the living shit out of me for it before leaving
"Next time, stay out of it. I didn't sleep a wink last night thinking about today," merle told me
I glared at him as daryl came to my defense. "She only did what we have tried to do a million times before. How many times have you punched that fucker in the head, hoping to knock him down?"
"That's different. I was doing that to save your ass."
"So was she!"
"Will you pair shut the fuck up? Last thing we need is for him to wake up and hear you talking about your desires to punch him." As I said that, the bedroom door opened. We all grew stiff, my hand clinging onto daryls, likely hurting him. We could hear Wills heavy footsteps as he walked closer to us. When he emerged into the living room, he took one look at me and scoffed. "How many times have I told you, you're not welcome in this house! Thought I got rid of ya!"
"Sorry, sir. I was just-"
"Ah save it. Just be gone by the time I get back, or there'll be hell to pay." Before he left, he began ransacking the cupboards
He yelled, "where are the fucking painkillers? I've woke up with a banging headache."
"We don't have painkillers. But you can always drink your hangover away," merle suggested, hoping that would make him leave
Will nodded. "I've taught you well, son. I don't know when I'll be back. If I get lucky, I'll find me a lady friend and stay the night. Like I said Jody, out of my house."
"Yes sir."
He shrugged on his jacket and left. The moment he closed the door behind him, we all let out a sigh of relief. Daryl said, "Thank fuck. I ain't ever been so nervous before."
"Can't believe he forgot."
"You don't gotta believe it. Just be grateful your ribs aren't broken," merle reminded me. He always had to put a downer on the situation
Daryl and I stood up and walked towards his bedroom but then merle called out, "where you off to today?"
I laughed at his question. It was just like merle to forget about the simplest of things. "Well it's Monday and it's 7am. I know this isn't your specialist subject, but we are going on a magical adventure to a little place known as school."
"Don't be a smart ass. Hurry up, I'll drop you off on my way to work."
"Cheers." Me and daryl went into his bedroom and began getting ready for school. It didn't take us long and soon enough, we were in merles truck. He had been teaching me and daryl how to drive and said that once he could afford a bike, daryl could have the truck.
I put my feet up on the dashboard as did daryl, but merle knocked them off. "Feet off. You're gonna leave marks."
"Merle, this truck is beat up as fuck. You've got scratches on scratches. A couple of dirty marks ain't even gonna be noticed."
Daryl had his arm over my shoulder as we got out of merles truck, flipping him off when he drove off. He dropped us off around the corner from the school gates. I knew we should go in and just see the day through, but I really didn't want to
"Wanna go hang out in the woods? You could practice with your crossbow."
"Yeah, alright. Better than being in that hellhole."
We started to walk back the way merle had driven us. He didn't like when we skived off school. He didn't stop us, but he did have a big rant about social services and all that bullshit. But our attendance wasn't low enough for them to get involved
It felt like forever before we reached the woods, or maybe that's just because of the heat. Either way, when we got there, I was ready for a nap
"I'll just go into the trailer and get my crossbow."
"Okay. I'll wait here." And so I did just that. Whilst daryl was gone, I was rolling up a cigarette when a man stepped towards me. The first thing I noticed about him was the designer clothes he was wearing. He stuck out like a sore thumb in a redneck trailer park. He had dark, gelled back hair and a cocky smile that made me want to rip out his teeth
Instead, I just glared at him and then went back to rolling up a few cigarettes for our hunt. I expected him to gag at the sight of my redneck clothing, (shorts and a tank top and a flannel shirt). Maybe then he'd walk away. But he just kept staring and then walked closer and closer
"You got a problem?" I asked him, standing up defensively
"No, no, not at all. I was just looking for someone who I believe lives around this area. You might be able to help me."
"I know everyone on the park. Half of them are in jail or lying in a ditch somewhere, but I can try and help."
"Thank you. His name is Freddie Adams. Do you know him?"
Before I could answer, daryl came back with his crossbow. He looked the strange man up and down and then wrapped his arm over my shoulder. "Who the fuck are you?"
"He wants to know if I've seen Freddie Adams. I haven't seen him for months, have you?"
"No, not for months."
The man nodded. "Thank you anyway."
"Hey, I suggest you take your nice car and drive off. You don't belong here," I told him
"Oh no, I'm not prejudice!"
"I'm sure you're not. But folks round here don't like your kind. You might be sweet as sugar, but you can't blame people for being jealous when you can afford a car like that and people round here can't even afford a home without wheels. Might seem like you are boasting."
He nodded his head and walked away. Me and daryl stepped into the woods, getting away from the trailer park. "Why was that guy looking for your dad?" Daryl asked.
"I don't know. And honestly, I don't wanna know. Some stones are better left unturned, especially when it comes to my daddy. He either forgot to wear a condom 20 years ago when having sex with a countess, or he has pissed off the mafia. Both suggestions just as likely as eachother."
"You've seen Oprah. He could be your brother," daryl said, teasingly.
I gently pushed him, rolling my eyes. "I couldn't give a monkeys ass if he is my brother, uncle, cousin, or even my real dad. I've got my family. You and merle, you're all I need."
