Jody Pov
With everything that had happened, I had been staying at daryls every night. Sometimes Will would fight, but I'd rather get pushed around than ever go through what my daddy put me through.
Still, that didn't stop me from sometimes debating going back to my family trailer. Mama was still there and I just knew that she was going through hell. She told me everyday that she was fine and she refused to let me come home. She explicitly told merle to keep me away from the trailer when Freddie was home, so that's what I did. It hurt like a bitch though, leaving her like that.
Since daryl and I were more desperate than ever to move out, we had been working as many shifts as possible. I worked in a diner on minimum wage since I still went to school. I suggested dropping out but daryl wouldn't let me. He knew how much it meant to me since mama never got the chance to continue her education
"I'll miss you, darling," daryl said to me, putting his hands gently on my waist as he kissed my cheek
"I'll miss you too. Feel like we've hardly seen eachother."
"I know. But won't be long before we see eachother every day. We'll live together, and we won't have either of our dad's in the way. I promise. This time next year, I'll have got us a place."
I could see the smirk on his lips and struggled to suppress my own before he kissed me one more time. Merle eventually dragged him off of me as I laughed.
When daryl left, it was just me and merl. I had just got back from a shift at the diner when daryl had to leave so we really hadn't seen eachother at all that day
"What's wrong?" Merle asked me as I huffed, flopping down onto the sofa
"I miss daryl."
"He was sucking your face like a fish two seconds ago. Think you are becoming clingy."
"Oh fuck off, merle. It's not that I haven't seen him in ages. It's that I haven't spoken to him properly for weeks. We've both been so busy working that we never have time for eachother anymore."
Merle let out a low chuckle and said, "welcome to adulthood."
"Adulthood sucks ass."
"Yep. That pretty much sums it up. You know, you don't need daryl to have fun. Now I know this might sound crazy, but you can actually leave the house without him."
I rolled my eyes and chucked a cushion at his face. "And do what? The only friend I have is daryl."
"What about the other waitresses at the diner?"
"They're all really nice but they're also all over the age of 50. It's 11pm. By now, they're usually in bed."
In the dixon household, time didn't seem to exist. We went to bed when we were tired and woke up when we wanted, even if that meant still being lively at 3am. It didn't matter. I went to school when necessary and I worked when I could. If I slept too much, I almost felt like my entire life was being wasted on work and school. I needed some free time to keep my going, even if that meant being exhausted for school
"Wanna go to a bar?" Merle asked
I considered it for a moment before shaking my head. "Not without daryl."
