As the night goes on, the atmosphere shifts into one of wild energy and laughter. Everyone starts pulling out a game that involves a ridiculous amount of drinking. Someone tosses a giant plastic wheel onto the coffee table, and it lands on "Truth or Drink," igniting a wave of enthusiasm from the group.
"Let's get this party started!" Owen shouts, grabbing a bottle of tequila and pouring shots for everyone. "You either spill your deepest secret or take a shot. No backing out!"
The first round goes quickly, and the stories shared are a mixture of embarrassing confessions and laugh-out-loud moments. Kara reveals that she once accidentally sent a flirty text to her professor instead of her boyfriend, and Damon almost spits out his drink.
"Dude, I would've crawled under a rock," he says, shaking his head. "What did you do?"
"I just pretended it was a joke," Kara replies, trying to look innocent. "But he totally looked at me differently after that."
The drinks keep flowing, and soon the energy in the room escalates. Emily, Ace's girlfriend, takes a turn and admits that she once got locked in a bathroom for an hour at a party because she was too embarrassed to come out. "I heard them all laughing outside, and I thought I was gonna die," she says, rolling her eyes.
"Honestly, I would've made a grand entrance," Ace says, grinning at her. "You should've just kicked the door down."
"Okay, let's not glorify that," Emily replies with a smirk, her eyes narrowing slightly at him.
"Okay, okay," Owen interrupts, raising his glass. "How about a dare this time? Let's keep it interesting!"
Someone shouts out for Ace to kiss the hottest girl in the room, and laughter erupts, filling the space with a chaotic energy. It's all in good fun, or at least it should be.
I sit next to Luke, feeling the heat from the alcohol coursing through my veins, my heart racing as Ace stands up, glancing around the room. He seems to be taking his time, letting the anticipation build. I'm not sure what to expect, but I can feel everyone's eyes on me as if they all know the unspoken tension between Ace and me.
"Come on, Ace! Don't make us wait!" someone yells.
In a shocking moment, Ace strides over to me, his expression focused and intense. Before I can even process what's happening, he leans in and kisses me deeply. The world around us fades, and it's just us—his lips against mine, and the taste of alcohol mingling between us. It's not just a dare; it feels electric, igniting something inside me that I thought I had buried deep down.
But just as quickly, I pull away, panic washing over me. I can't do this. Not here, not like this.
The room falls silent, and I see the immediate change in Luke's expression. His jaw tightens, his eyes blazing with anger, and I can almost feel the storm brewing inside him. He looks ready to throw hands, and it makes my heart race for an entirely different reason. Luke knows about the history between Ace and me, and I can see the betrayal in his eyes.
"What the hell was that?" Luke says, his voice low and tense.
Before I can respond, Emily strides up to Ace, fury radiating off her. "Really, Ace? You just had to go and kiss her, didn't you?"
"I didn't mean for it to go that far," Ace replies, shrugging, but he looks unfazed.
"No, you're just a fucking idiot!" Emily snaps back, crossing her arms over her chest. "You could've kissed me, you know."
"Relax, it was just a dare," Ace retorts, but I can see that it's not that simple.
"Yeah, sure, a dare," Luke sneers, his anger bubbling over. "You think that's how you treat friends?"
