Wiaan Mulder, an all-rounder, fractured his right middle finger and will miss the rest of South Africa's first Test match against Sri Lanka in Durban as well as the upcoming match in Gqeberha. Cricket Batsman Matthew Breetzke has been selected by South Africa to take Mulder's spot for the second Test, which begins on December 5. Last month, the 24-year-old played his first Test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

On Day 2 of the first Test in Durban, Mulder was batting when he was struck on the hand by a delivery from Lahiru Kumara, which was traveling at 140 kmph. Mulder took a while to bat again since he was in a lot of agony. However, he only had to endure two more deliveries before leaving the field in agony.

When South Africa was nine down for 145 in the same session, he came out to bat once again. Mulder even blasted Dhananjaya de Silva for a six down the ground as he and Kagiso Rabada combined for the final wicket, adding 26 runs.

The seriousness of the injury, which will now prevent him from playing in the second Test, was revealed by X-rays done during the lunch break that followed.
