Once inside the hotel room, Minji closed the door behind them, a giggle escaping her lips as she turned to see Woojin’s tipsy antics. He staggered over to the bed and plopped down, but just as quickly, he shot up, looking alarmed.
“I can’t sleep here!” he declared, shifting to the floor. “You should take the bed, Minji. I’ll sleep on the floor.”
Minji blinked, bewildered. “Woojin, you don’t need to sleep on the floor! We’re not in church camp anymore!”
“But what if I did something to you while we sleep?” he said earnestly, wide-eyed with sincerity. “What if you got pregnant?”
Minji burst into laughter, her amusement filling the room. “You were just so confident about making me pregnant and having pious kids in the elevator! Now you’re scared?”
Woojin furrowed his brow, clearly serious. “That was after our wedding! This is different! I can’t risk it, Minji! I have to protect you!”
Minji chuckled, shaking her head. “Woojin, you’re too drunk! I don’t think you could do anything to me in this condition. Just come to bed and sleep.”
He pouted stubbornly, crossing his arms. “No way! You sleep, and I’ll guard you in case anyone tries to kidnap you. I’ll be your knight!”
Minji couldn’t help but laugh again at the sight of Woojin sitting cross-legged on the floor, puffing out his chest like a valiant protector. “A knight, huh? What are you going to do? Sing ‘Kumbaya’ at them?”
“Exactly!” Woojin exclaimed, nodding enthusiastically. “They’ll be so confused, they won’t know what to do! Or I could recite Bible verses! That’ll scare them off!”
“Right, because nothing says ‘stay away’ like a passionate sermon!” Minji teased, trying to suppress her giggles.
Woojin nodded seriously, “You underestimate the power of the Lord, Minji! They’d run away in fear!”
Minji sighed, her heart swelling with affection for his earnestness. “Okay, fine. But if you’re going to be my knight, at least take a nap on the bed. You need to sleep it off.”
Woojin hesitated for a moment, glancing back at the bed, then to Minji. “But what if I roll over and accidentally touch you? Then you’ll get pregnant!”
Minji rolled her eyes, grinning. “Oh come on! You know that’s not how it works! And I promise, I won’t let you roll over!”
After a moment, Woojin finally relented, swaying slightly as he climbed back onto the bed, flopping down dramatically. “Alright, but I’m not responsible for any pregnancy-related incidents!”
Minji laughed, shaking her head as she joined him on the bed, taking care to leave some space between them. “Deal! Just try to stay on your side, knight.”
“Only if you promise to keep the kidnappers away,” he mumbled, eyes already fluttering shut, the alcohol taking effect as he drifted off.
As she settled down, Minji couldn’t help but smile at the sight of Woojin, still so innocent and protective, even in his tipsy state. “Sleep well, Woojin. You’re safe,” she whispered, feeling a warmth in her chest that she couldn’t quite place.
Woojin, lying half-asleep on the bed, suddenly opened his eyes and looked at Minji with an innocent yet mischievous grin. “Don’t you want to kiss me goodnight, Minji?”
Minji raised her eyebrows, amused. “What? Now you want a kiss? I thought all that was only after the wedding.”
Woojin pouted slightly, his drunken self becoming bolder. “Well, I changed my mind. I think I deserve a goodnight kiss.”
