Author's pov

With no other choice, Devendra reluctantly consented to Roop's terms, giving her and Yuvraj a room and a first aid kit.

"You have 30 minutes. That's it! If you don't manage it by that time, then I have other methods to get results," Devendra warned as he walked out.

As soon as they were alone, Roop pulled Yuvraj into her embrace.
"Thank God you're okay!" She sighed in relief, only to notice he wasn't returning the hug.

"Why?" Yuvraj whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Why did you do it? Why did you agree to this? I didn't realize that when you said about not leaving each other, it only applied to me. You can just walk away whenever you want!" he added, his words sharp with bitterness.

"I can't let him hurt you," Roop said firmly as she helped him sit down and began tending to his wounds.

"We had a plan," Yuvraj replied, his voice strained with frustration.
"You didn't have to do that. You didn't have to put a fucking gun to your own head!" His words laced with suppressed anger.

"That was the only way to stop them from hitting you," Roop said calmly, still focusing on dressing up the wound on his hands.

Yuvraj looked at her, his voice tight with emotion. "You know, the beating didn't hurt nearly as much as seeing you point that gun at yourself!" He said it quietly, and she remained silent.

"You don't have to face him alone. I don't trust him!" Yuvraj said, concern evident in his voice.

Roop looked at him, her voice gentle, "Please. I need to know. I need to know the truth and he is never going to tell me a thing in anybody's presence. Besides you need to play your part here."

"He could hurt you!" Yuvraj said, his voice filled with urgency.

"Please, let me handle this," Roop replied, taking a steadying breath.

"I am going to kill him with my bare hands after we are done with this!!" Yuvraj vowed, his lips brushing Roop's forehead, and she smiled softly finally accepting that he will always have her back no matter what.

Roop's pov

"You got three questions. Be quick. I don't have an entire day to waste on you." Mr. Goenka said sternly, and I looked at him in disgust.

"How did mumma end up with you?" I asked, scrunching my nose.

"Marriage." He replied, and I just stared at him in disbelief.

"Stop doing that. It's not going to help either of us." I said firmly, looking at him with pure rage.
I can't lose my cool.

"I'll pluck your eyes out once we are done here." He said, and I scoffed.

"Answer me." I said, forcing a smile.

"I was a bodyguard at your maternal grandfather's place, and she fell in love with me, and we got married." He answered, rolling his eyes.

"You worked for my mother?" I said, looking at him wide-eyed.

"I didn't work for her!!! I worked for her father! She was just a stupid little princess who thought life was a fairy tale and was not worthy of the wealth she was going to inherit!!" He almost yelled, and I clenched my fist in anger.

"And you thought you were worthy for it!?" I said, matching his tone.

"I wasn't born with a silver spoon like her, but I had ambitions. Your mother didn't." He replied, clenching his jaw.
