The servant knocked on the heavy wooden door, but only silence greeted him. He frowning and glanced at the guards stationed outside.
"Is there someone in there?" he asked, his voice was low with unease.
"No, no one has entered since you last did," one of the guards replied, while stifling a yawn.
"Not even another servant?"
"Prince Taehyung gave orders," the other guard explained. "No one except you is allowed to attend to Prince Jong Gyu."
The servant sighed, tension was creeping up his spine. "Can one of you check on him, at least?"
The guard shook his head. "Our job is to guard, not to serve. It's you he entrusted with this task."
After hesitating for a moment he turned the brass handle and slipped inside. The chamber was dimly lit, the pale morning light was barely reaching the corners of the room. He glanced toward the bed, expecting to find Jong Gyu resting there, but the sheets seemed to be untouched.
He sighed heavily as a hint of frustration mingling with concern etched on his face. Where is he now, my god.
He was new to these duties, and the pressure of serving royalty was weighing on him heavily. In particular, he didn't know what to do and what to not. Prince Taehyung had personally instructed him to keep a close eye on his elder brother, Prince Jong Gyu, who had been stubbornly ignoring the advice of healers. His health had been deteriorating, yet he refused to heed their warnings or rest as he should.
"Where could he have gone?" the servant muttered under his breath, scanning the room nervously.
He moved toward the back of the chamber, towards the dimen—a small adjoining room meant for gathering, often used as a private sitting area. And there, he was standing by the window with a strained grip on the frame. The servant's heart sank.
