Author's Perspective:

Minhee shot the maid an irritated glare. "What now? I told you to send her away!" she snapped, causing the maid to flinch, her hands were gripping the edges of her dress as she stared at the floor.

"M-Maria says she...she won't leave until she meets you," the maid stammered, her voice, barely a whisper.

Minhee closed her eyes, and exhaled sharply while massaging her temples. "Then tell her I'm taking a bath," she replied, waving the maid off with a dismissive gesture. The maid nodded quickly, and bowed before retreating in silence.

But just after a second, the door swung open with a loud crash, and there stood Maria, breathless and defiant. Minhee shot up, stunned. "How dare you—"

Maria cut her off, her eyes were blazing with fury. "I'm here to warn you, Lady Minhee," she spat. "Stop using me to line your own pockets and give me what I'm owed. Or else..." Maria took a step closer, her voice was dropping to a sharp whisper. "Or else everyone will see who you really are. And there won't be a single place left for you to hide or to cover your face"

With that, she turned on her heel and stormed out, leaving Minhee standing there, her fists were clenched. She sank onto the bed, her mind was racing with possibilities as she grabbed her hair, pulling them in frustration. "What the hell does she think she's doing?"

.................................................

The grand entrance doors creaked open as Park Chaewon and his son, Daewoon, stepped into the castle, flanked by a pair of guards who guided them through the stone corridors. Each step was echoing through the quiet halls, a sense of purpose and unspoken tension was hanging in the air. Chaewon held his head high, his gaze was fixed forward, while Daewoon followed closely, his expressions were unreadable yet alert.

The guards led them to the King's Chamber, where a low murmur of voices could be heard beyond the heavy doors. With a formal knock, one of the guards announced their arrival. The door swung open, and they entered the chamber.

Inside, Minhee was standing by the window, her posture was tense as she glanced toward the newcomers. Her eyes lingered on Chaewon, and a fleeting look of unease crossed her face before she quickly masked it. She clasped her hands, maintaining a composed facade, though her heart beat was faster at their unexpected arrival. Yes, the King discussed with her about the possibility of calling them but not the day or time.

The King was sitting at the head of the room, he nodded as they approached. "Lord Chaewon, Daewoon," he greeted them, his voice was firm. "Thank you for coming on such short notice."

Chaewon offered a respectful bow, with Daewoon following suit. "It is always an honor to serve, Your Majesty," Chaewon replied, his tone was polished but was carrying a hint of curiosity.

Minhee's gaze shifted nervously between the King and Chaewon. She forced a polite smile, though a trace of tension clung to her movements. "Welcome, Lord Chaewon, Daewoon," she said, her voice was steady, yet there was an underlying edge as if she were weighing each word carefully.

Daewoon returned her greeting with a brief nod, his expressions were neutral, but Minhee sensed his watchful gaze. He looked every bit, the noble son, his demeanor was controlled, yet there was a glint of something calculating in his eyes that made Minhee feel exposed, as if he saw past her polished exterior. He didn't know anything, did he?
