Jack - Upper Commons, April 25

We'd been hiding for a couple days, avoiding the watchful eyes of the government until we were officially in the trials. Amanda had been teaching Mason how to fight for almost a day now. Mason of course, was taking it slowly and with lots of practice. Although his sparring skills weren't great, and his aim was worse, he'd held out a couple of times using his agility, hiding right in Amanda's blind spot and shooting forward with a practice knife. She knew him though, and every time she was able to lock up his arms and send him sprawling, but on the inside we both knew that on an unexpectjng opponent he would be able to do some damage.

We walked through the streets with our hoods up, sometimes spreading out so we didn't look like a group, but always staying close enough together no one was in danger. Once we reached the gates, the line was out the door, on all 20 different openings. I got in one line, and Mason and Amanda got in another one. Even the lines weren't safe, from the government or from competitors trying to thin out the competition. After 3 hours I reached the entrance booth. the walls on either side of me glowed blue, as all my guns, my bracelet, and my baton were highlighted through my clothes. "Name?" an old white woman said. Her voice sounded so old even her vocal cords had wrinkles, "Johnson, Jack Johnson"
"Ok Wait here"
the computer system processed for a second before she looked at me, eyes wide. "You've been here before?" I nodded my head. She clicked a few more buttons on her computer, before telling me that i was done.
"One more thing," she said. "Over 4,000 people are signed up for the first round. only 300 are expected to survive."
