I pulled the little table behind, and nearly stumbled over the rest of the luggage. "God I'm huungryy!" I wailed.
"We'll order something" Evelyn muttered and heaved the box in his hands onto the stairs, he clenched his teeth at the weight and I smirked at him.
"Is the wittle box too heavy for Evelyn?" I asked.
"Little?" Evelyn said "have you seen the size of this? It's probably bigger than you!".
I narrowed my eyes back at him. I skipped into the kitchen and took out a doughnut, just about to reply with the clever comment I had come up with when the bell rang. Evelyn sighed and walked over. He opened the door, the person and him exchanged a few words and before I could see who had come the person had left.
"I guess dinner's sorted... we've been invited to a dinner party, I couldn't say no." He muttered.
"A dinner party?" I asked looking a little confused. "But dinner parties are for adults-" I paused and thought for a bit. "I am an adult aren't I?" I nodded to myself. Off course, it all made sense now. Evelyn sighed and walked over to his jacket pulling it on slowly.
"So, I guess if they ask then it was an arranged marriage." I said slowly, Evelyn didn't respond.
"Hopefully they don't ask." He said finally, probably wondering whether wearing a suit with a tie was too formal. At the end he finally decided to remove the tie and walked over to the window. "If you're done we can go." He glanced at me. I scuttled off and started hunting around the suitcase, trying to find some sort of formal clothing.
"I hope you know the only reason I'm going is for the free food." I called to him.
"it's not like you ever work properly anyway." I heard Evelyn mutter from outside the door. I scowled to myself.
"Of course I always work. I help a lot." I called back, earning a silence from Evelyn. He probably hadn't thought I would hear him. "I hear all!" I called. Another silence. I pulled out a too familiar dress and stared at it.
"It's funny how much your mother and your clothing ideas clash." I added handing him the dress. "And if I recall you were telling me off for not wearing the clothes she was telling me to wear." Evelyn observed the mini dress in front of him and sighed. He opened his mouth as if to say something then stopped himself. I walked back to my suitcase wondering why I hadn't burned the dress already.
Finally I found something that was comfortable enough but still looked smart. It had long sleeves that would probably be able to cover my scarred and bandaged arms. The dress was light blue with white collars. And an additional brown belt, I knew how much Evelyn hated me wearing belts but he seemed to be calming down now about things like that the dress felt more like a jumper then a dress. I added a white scarf to my dress and wrapped it around my neck before shuffling back out to where Evelyn was waiting.
"You look... nice." He muttered finally, glancing at me- though I guess it wasn't a glass it was a little longer then a glance.
"Well thank you Evelyn, I see you're improving." I nodded satisfied enough. "You also look very pretty." I added examining him.
"Pretty?" Evelyn's usual monotone voice sounded a little offended.
"Yes."
"Isn't pretty for... females?" he asked me sighing, buttoning the buttons on his sleeve." I shrugged.
"You must embrace your feminine eyes Evelyn." I told him and walked over to the door. It was then that is started imagining all the foods that I could eat, maybe they had made cheesecakes and grilled meat on a stick with those vegetables... I licked my lips at the thought before being rudely interrupted by Evelyn nudging me.
