I came out to my parents as pansexual back in middle school. But even then I barely knew myself what the word meant. Over the time I knew I wasn't straight so with enough research I concluded I was pansexual.
I feel pretty confident admitting it now but still not much people know about it, not anyone at school that is.
Back when I told my parents, they reacted surprisingly well but I think the only reason why that was is because they didn't even know what I was talking about. Mom seems fine with it but Dad on the other hand always finds a way to bring it up and make things awkward and I already knew when i would have to ask him if I could go to Zoey's over the weekend, he'd find a way to bring it up.
I arrived at dad's about a half hour ago but Dad wasn't home and mom and I both concluded he was at the station. Dad's been a police officer there for about twenty years, he always claims he's going to retire soon to spend more time with me amongst other things, but he never does.
In some way he's kind of similar to mom, they've got something in common; Their both obsessed with their work.
Outside, I heard dad's car pull into the driveway, the engine turning off as he entered through the front door. "You got here early" he said.
"Of course, mom was the one driving".
I pulled out my phone from the pocket of my sweater and typed out Zoey's number, looking at my arm then my phone, then my arm again.
Rowan: Hey Zoey it's Rowan. Sorry I didn't text earlier, I was on the road with my mom.
Zoey: no biggie :) maybe u could come by tonight 4 supper? we could work on the project afterwards.
I looked up from my phone. Dad put his things away then sat down with me at the table. "Are you hungry? I could cook us some dinner".
I placed my phone down on the table and crossed my arms. "Actually I was wondering If I could go over to a friend's house for dinner, we have to work on this history project anyway".
Dad frowned, then sighed. "You always complain I'm never here but when I am you always want to leave the house".
"Its important, this project is due for Monday".
Dad crossed his arms and leaned back into the dining room chair. He placed his hands over his mustache. "Who's this "friend"?" He asked.
"Her name's Zoey, were doing the project together".
Dad looked at me, his glare heavy, as if it was weighing me down. "Does this Zoey happen to be your girlfriend?".
"N- no, she's just a friend, I barely even know her. I've been going to that school for litterly 2 days".
Dad got up and picked his jacket from the hanger, "Fine, as long as she doesn't live far".
I smiled, my eyes brightened. I didn't expect Dad to actually say yes but I guess the things I pointed out left him no choice but to take me. I was saying the truth though, I've only been going to Westfield Academy for two days so there's no way I could already have a girlfriend.
Rowan: Yeah my dad said yes, were about to head on the road. What's ur address?
