E h a n
"Ehan" Someone called me. The voice was deep and unfamiliar.
I took my steps forward in the direction of the sound. It was an open space covered in pitch darkness. Only a piece of land had a faint glow but it was far from me. I kept moving in the direction of the sound and suddenly a blast of light happened.
My body jerked and my eyes opened. My body was covered in sweat and my heart beat raced. I couldn't move from my place for a minute.
A wave of fear ran through my body.
The cell phone lying at the side table kept ringing but I wasn't able to move my arms. I was feeling weakness in my whole body.
I closed my eyes and recited a few verses from the Quran. The mobile phone stopped ringing. After some time, I was able to sit up. I covered my face with my hands and released a long sigh.
Another night, another nightmare.
I grabbed my cell phone but there was nothing on it. I was terrified to see that. I quickly turned on the lights. It was 4 am in the morning. The world outside was still dark and quiet.
Suddenly, the walls in the room suffocated me. I rushed to the balcony. I stood there behind the railing, breathing heavily.
I checked my cell phone, there was not even a single message from my family. It had been so many days since I talked to my parents.
They were upset with me for what I have done with Mehr. Papa is very angry at me because Uncle Talha argued with him just because of me. Mama doesn't talk to me much, she is upset at my behavior.
My parents believe I have failed him, so do I.
My elder sister just called me once to tell me how pathetic I was for hurting my wife. My younger sister, Shehrina, is the only one who cares for me even after what I have done to a woman. She does leave messages for me and ask me If I am okay. I was never close to her but at this difficult time she is the only one who is talking to me normally.
I dialed my mother's number. She doesn't sleep after praying fajar. I badly wanted to talk to my family. I wasn't able to bear their punishment anymore. It was too much to handle.
"Hello! Mama!" I mumbled impatiently when the line connected.
"Yes" She asked firmly.
"I am sorry Mama! Please talk to me" I couldn't control my tears.
"What you want to talk about Ehan! Your wife is missing for God sakes" She said angrily.
"Mama! I am trying my best!" I told her.
"Then do it, beg her forgiveness and do what she wants. I will talk to you then" She hung up the call.
I could feel the hurt in her voice. She is very upset at my doings. My heart clenched at her voice, what kind of a son am I? I have failed my parents so miserably. They loved and cared for me so much and what have I given in return.
The morning arrived completely and I kept sitting in the balcony. I wasn't able to go inside in the darkness. I sat there outside in the fresh air and witnessed the sunrise.
I had nothing to do anyways. The past week I was terminated from my job for which I had worked so hard and it took no time for it to end for me.
I wasn't able to work properly. Something is wrong with me these days, I can't do anything. I don't feel like doing anything. I was unable to perform my duties even when I tried so hard to not fuck up but at the end my mind was playing with me.
