~Five years later~"Mommy! Mommy!" The little girl with dark hair and emerald green eyes jumps on me.
"Hi baby." I kiss her cheek.
"Guess what?" She says happily.
"Um, you grew five inches?" I guess.
"Don't be silly mommy. There is this new boy and he is so nice he kissed my cheek."
"Really? How does you think daddy is gonna react?" I ask.
"Oh no we can not tell daddy." She agrees.
"Tell me what?" Maddox comes over.
"I think Hanna has something to tell you." I say handing her over to him.
"Mommy." She whines.
"We don't keep secrets in this family." I say.
"Ugh fine, but promise you won't get mad daddy." I bite my lip to keep from laughing.
"I promise baby." He says.
"Well there is this new boy. He kissed me on the cheek." She says.
"Oh heck no." Activate protective dad mode.
"Daddy! You promised!" She whines.
"I can't have little boys kissing my little girl." He says.
"Mommy help!" Hanna whines.
"Maddox."
"Shortcake."
"If you don't behave you get none of this." I say.
"That's just cruel." He glares.
"Can we please just home now, before you embarrass me?" Hanna asks.
"Me? Embarrassing? Never." He scoffs carrying her to the car.
"Remember that time at graduation?" I say.
"That was me proclaiming love to you."
"How about the time Grace and Fay walked in on you naked?"
"That was an accident I just heard the best news of my life." He says.
Once in the car, I kiss his cheek. "Don't think that's gonna make me forget." He says driving.
"Hey mommy?" Hanna asks in her cute little voice.
"Yes baby?"
"When are you having baby brother?" Maddox and I share a look.
"What are you talking about Hanna? Mommy doesn't have a baby in her tummy." Maddox says looking for me to confirm and i nod.
"Maya says her mommy has a baby in her tummy." She explains.
"Baby just because someone else's mommy has a baby in their tummy, doesn't mean your mommy has one." He explains.
She lets it go thankfully. When we get home, I put her on the couch. "Can you stay here so I can use the potty?" I ask.
"Yes mommy." I go to our room where Maddox lays on the bed on his phone. I go into the bathroom and start digging through the cabinets.
"What are you doing?" He asks sitting up to see me.
"Nothing." Where the hell did all the pregnancy tests go?
"You're totally looking for a test aren't you?" He chuckles. When I look over at him I see him hold one up.
"She freaked me out okay. Last time I didn't even know till I was in the second trimester." I walk over to him.
"I'm not stopping you shortcake." He gives me the test and I go into the bathroom and take it. I put the test on the counter and check on Hanna.
"You okay baby?" I ask.
"Yes momma." She says.
I go back into the room to find Maddox not on the bed anymore. I look in the bathroom to see him looking at the test.
"Well?" I ask.
When he looks at me I know immediately. He got the same glint in his eyes when I told him about Hanna.
"You're giving birth to this one." I groan.
"Doesn't work like that shortcake." He chuckles. He walks over and gets on his knees in front of me. He puts his hands on my flat stomach. "It's a boy." He says.
"You're only saying that because Hanna said it." I say.
"Maybe." He kisses my stomach.
"Are you gonna change the diapers?" I ask.
"Of course love." He gets up to his feet and kisses me.
Nine months later and I gave birth to our son Caleb James Young. Lying in the hospital bed with him on my chest, I felt so at peace.
"Have I ever mentioned how much I love our little family?" Maddox says.
"Every single day." I chuckle.
"Good and I'll keep mentioning it." He smirks.
I close my eyes inhaling deeply. This was the best life, I'd ever hope for.
