I hurried upstairs, my heart still racing from the surprise. I quickly swapped my shorts for something more appropriate. A pair of casual pants. As I stood in front of the mirror, I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. Of all the times my parents would have shown up...
Once I felt somewhat composed, I headed back downstairs to the living room, mentally preparing for what awaited me. To my surprise, the atmosphere had completely changed. My parents were sitting on the sofa, laughing with Yin as if they had known each other for years.
Yin leaned back comfortably, smiling. He looked totally at ease, as though the chaos from earlier had never even happened.
Pa was leaning forward, his hands animated as he spoke to Yin. "I have been following your career for a long time, Yin. I watched every movie you have been in. Never imagined my son's boyfriend would turn out to be the same actor I have been a fan of!" He chuckled, clearly delighted.
Yin chuckled, scratching the back of his neck shyly. "I'm honored to hear that, uncle. I didn't expect to meet such a devoted fan today."
I blinked, trying to process what I was seeing. Mae was smiling warmly at them as if she was already on board with everything, no questions asked.
She looked up at me as I entered the living room and waved me over. "War, come sit. We were just talking about how your Pa has seen all of Yin's movies and drama."
I smiled, making my way to sit beside Yin, still feeling a little surreal about how smoothly everything was going. I half expected awkwardness or at least some surprise but instead, here they were, laughing and acting like old friends. It was a relief, honestly but I couldn't help but feel a bit blindsided.
Mae chimed in, "War always kept his personal life so private. But, honestly, Yin, you are even more handsome in person!" She gave me a teasing glance and I could feel my face heating up.
Pa continued, "We also watched yesterday's press conference. Thank you for standing up to our son, Yin," Pa said.
I hadn't expected Pa to react so openly to the press conference, much less to Yin. It was almost overwhelming how easily they were accepting everything.
Yin squeezed my hand. "War means everything to me, uncle," he said softly, glancing at me with affection in his eyes. "I wouldn't be where I am without his support, so yeah, I will always stand by him. And sorry too for everything that happened."
Mae smiled. "That's not your fault, dear. War deserves someone who will love and support him."
Pa then turned to me. "You should have told us earlier, War. We would have liked to meet Yin sooner, especially knowing how much he means to you. But...we understand."
I grinned. "Supposedly you and Mae met Yin last week. But now that everything's out in the open, I'm glad it's turned out like this."
Yin chuckled lightly. "Seems like your parents approve of me, huh?"
I giggled, squeezing his hand. "Looks like it."
Mae sighed contentedly, watching us. "You know, I always worried about War. He's always been so independent, so private. But seeing him with you, Yin...I don't think I have ever seen him so happy."
Hearing that from Mae, who had always been protective of me, made everything feel even more real. I hadn't realized just how much I had kept hidden from them until now. But having them here, accepting Yin so naturally, it made me so happy.
Yin looked slightly bashful but clearly happy. "I'm just lucky to have him."
Pa laughed, clapping his hands together. "Well, you have certainly made an impression. I can't say I ever expected my son to end up with a movie star but I have to admit, you are a perfect match."
