OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
NOOOOO.
My door clicked to reveal my mom standing, confused and serious, with a hand on her hip.
"Evelyn, what are you doing??"
I froze in shock and slammed the phone to the rest.
"Hi.. mom..!!" I stammered anxiously.
"Who were you talking to??"
"Nobody." I blurted out, despite her literally WALKING IN on me calling somebody.
"..don't even try to lie to me, Evelyn Smith. You were calling somebody, and I will know who it is." Her voice practically stabbed me.
Or it might as well have, because I FELT stabbed.
"...no..."
"Absolutely! Don't try to play dumb with me, Evelyn. WHO were you calling??"
"..Alex.." I mumbled, my voice wobbly and anxious.
"Alex?! Of course you're calling him. I suppose you're dating?!" Mom assumed.
UH NO.
I'M NOT DATING ANYONE.
I DON'T EVEN LIKE HIM LIKE THAT.
I DON'T EVEN LIKE ANYONE THAT WAY.
My face burnt up as my stomach dropped.
"Mom, I'm not dating anybody!! What gave you that idea?!" I exclaimed, humiliated.
"You know you're not supposed to call anyone! Especially without my permission."
It went silent.
"I think he's becoming a bad influence for you." Mom thought aloud, sitting in my desk chair, facing me.
"No he's not, mom. He can be so kind and funny.."
"He is a wonderful best friend!" I defended him.
Now I KNOW he got angry and stuff, but literally EVERYONE does.
Even my mom!
She should know people get angry more than me!
Rolling her eyes, she walked off, slamming the door in front of me.
WHY did she think to mention dating?!
Why did it even MATTER to me?!
Why does she think Alex's a bad influence?!
It's SO unfair!!
I fell to my bed and sighed in frustration.
About 20 minutes later, my mom came in again, opening the door.
