"No. You're going tomorrow." She cleared her throat.

AWWW :( I sat back down..

"Also, about that kid you like. Alex."

"..yeah..??"

OH NO SHE PROBABLY HATES HIM NOW.

"He doesn't treat you well at all. He's quick to hurt people. Has he always been this way??"

..yes..?? But does that even matter?? It's okay! I can help him. He will get better with me.

If he's alone all day, he'll only get worse.

"No. I swear, this was just a bad day for him. He's never done that before."

"Evelyn, whether it was rare or not, you still can't just play with danger! What if he kills you?!"

"Seriously, mom..? That would NEVER happen. I promise you just watch the news too much."

Her eyes narrowed at me with paranoia and frustration.

"You really are just too naive. The world can be a horrible place. If you venture out, you could die."

A rush of anxiety washed over me.

"..uhhh okay, mom." I awkwardly took a bite and stared down at the table.

"You're going to regret this. If you continue hanging out with him, I'll eventually catch you." Her eyes flashed ominously, piercing through my soul.

UHHHH OKAY MOM YOU'RE FREAKING ME OUT

"..okay, I won't."

"Alright. If I catch you, though..?"

"It won't be great for you at all."
