Auntie Em killed herself

Clara Blandick was already pretty old during production. 

So after the movie was released, she got less and less healthy. 

She was always in pain and didn't wanna suffer a painful death.

So instead, she decorated her room to represent her accomplishments, put on her favorite dress, and overdosed on sleeping pills. 

She left a note that prayed she go to heaven and never feel pain anymore.
