Third POV
Lily stood frozen, her gaze fixed on the tattoo adorning Clarissa's spine, a poignant reminder of her best friend, who had been lost to her forever.
The news of Eve's disappearance had struck her hardest a year ago; Eve was more than just a friend she was like a sister. The pain of that loss was unbearable.
The car had been found charred and submerged in the river, yet Eve's body was never recovered. The authorities had ruled her dead, claiming there was no way she could have survived such a devastating accident.
The guilt weighed heavily on Lily, knowing she hadn't been there for her best friend when she needed her most.
A burial ceremony was held, but Dominic, Eve's ex-husband, didn't attend. It was evident he didn't care about her, nor did he seem to mourn the loss of his former wife.
Lily harbored deep resentment towards him for the hurt he had inflicted during their time together; he had treated her poorly, and the memories still stung. Although she was aware of Harper's relationship with Dominic, she had never brought it up with Eve, fully understanding how much it would devastate her. Dominic was no ordinary man; he was the feared mafia Don, and Lily had always been terrified of him.
So, she remained silent, watching her best friend interact with Harper, unaware that it was her dearest sister who was the mistress, secretly stealing her husband from her.
The most troubling part was Ivan; he was truly a monster, and everyone was aware of it. He had taken the lives of Domicile's parents and had tormented Eve throughout their childhood.
Lily stood by as her friend collapsed to the ground, realizing that all of Eve's memories were gone, and it was now her responsibility to act. Lily was certain that Ivan's intentions were far from noble; whatever he was plotting was driven by a desire for revenge over past events, and that filled her with anger.
With no other choice, she knew she had to reach out to Dominic. Despite her disdain for him, he was the only one capable of keeping Clarissa safe from Ivan.
Without hesitation, she picked up her phone and dialed his number.
"Hello," came Aiden's voice, Dominic's loyal right-hand man.
"Tell the Don that I have Clarissa here. He needs to come and get her," she instructed before ending the call. Then, she carefully moved Eve's unconscious body to the bed.
Still reeling from the shocking turn of events, Lily felt overwhelmed. Seeing her friend again after a year of believing she was lost was more than she could have ever hoped for.
A knock echoed at her door shortly after, and she immediately recognized who it was. Rising from her seat, she approached the door and opened it, finding Dominic standing there, flanked by her brother and his men.
"Where is she?" he demanded, stepping inside without waiting for an invitation, his presence commanding respect as she averted her gaze, not wanting to meet the Don's eyes.
"She's in the room," Lily replied. Just as he was about to move, she felt a surge of determination; she couldn't bear to watch her friend endure the same ordeal again. It was time to set her free.
"Before you go, Don, there's something I need to tell you," she said, and Dominic turned to face her, recognizing her as his wife's best friend. He raised an eyebrow, silently urging her to continue.
"I'm listening," he replied, his attention drifting toward the bedroom door, as if hoping to catch a glimpse of Clarissa.
"What I'm about to say might upset you, but I'm certain of it," she warned, noticing his impatience growing. She caught a glance from her brother, a silent plea for her to stop, but she was resolute.
"Get on with it!" Dominic snapped, his voice rising in frustration.
"The woman in that room isn't your ex-wife Eve; she's someone entirely different," Lily lied, meeting Dominic's fierce gaze. He remained silent, but his grip tightened around her neck, pulling her closer.
"What the hell is this?" he growled, frustration evident in his voice as he reacted to her attempt to mock him. Dominic was fixated on the belief that Clarissa was Eve, despite her lack of memory about him.
"Don, please ignore her," Aiden interjected, trying to shield his sister from Dominic's anger.
"No, I can prove it," she shouted, and Dominic released her, watching as she took deep, heavy breaths.
"What is it, woman?" he demanded.
"When we were teenagers, we got matching friendship tattoos, and she had a scar on her shoulder. I checked, and neither of those are there," she lied through clenched teeth, meeting Dominic's gaze.
His heart raced as he processed her words. He didn't want to accept it, but this was Lily his wife's best friend and his best friend's sister. If anyone knew about Eve, it was her, and if she was saying this, it meant the woman with him wasn't his ex-wife.
He stumbled back into a chair, running his hands through his hair in disbelief.
"Are you certain about this?" he asked, and Lily nodded, even though she was aware of the truth. She never wanted her friend to return to the man who had caused her so much pain, but with Ivan pursuing her, she felt compelled to act, knowing he had sinister intentions. To protect her friend, she felt she had no other choice.
Dominic stood there, deeply contemplating Lily's words. He had always trusted her, knowing she was the closest person to Eve. If she claimed the girl wasn't Eve, he had no reason to doubt her.
"How did you meet her?" he asked, genuinely curious about their encounter.
"I bumped into her at the mall. She seemed lost, and I was the one she turned to for help," Lily replied, and Dominic nodded in understanding.
He believed everything she said, but his heart ached. The woman bore a striking resemblance to his late wife, the one he had hoped to find redemption with, but now that hope felt distant.
"How can you be so certain she isn't Eve?" he asked, his gaze fixed on Lily, who swallowed hard, a flicker of panic crossing her face at the thought of being exposed for lying.
Lily felt a deep resentment towards Dominic for what had happened to her friend, yet her fear of Ivan loomed larger due to his intimidating presence.
"I'm absolutely sure! I'm not messing with your head. , but that girl in that room is definitely not her, i think we have to accept the fact that Eve must be dead," Lily insisted, trying to stand her ground.
