Clarissa POV
I gradually opened my eyes, a sharp pain throbbing in my head, and let out a groan as I took in my surroundings. A wave of dread washed over me as I realized where I was, I was back at Dominic's place.
Then it struck me: the girl had knocked me out and brought me here. Just as that thought settled in, the door swung open, and there she stood. The moment she noticed I was awake, she rushed over and closed the door behind her.
"I'm so relieved you're awake," she said, hurrying to my side. Anger surged within me as she reached out to touch me, and I instinctively pushed her away.
"How could you do this?" I snapped, my voice filled with rage.
"I can explain..." she replied, raising her hands in a gesture meant to calm me, but her eyes were a mix of emotions, including pity.
"Explain what? I trusted you, you traitor..." I spat, my anger boiling over as I locked eyes with her, which were heavy with sympathy.
"It's not what you think, it..." she began, but I stood up and grabbed her by the collar.
"It what? How much did he pay you to betray me? You promised to help me, and yet you turned on me like this!" I shouted, watching as tears slipped down her cheeks, her expression filled with sorrow.
Eve... please, just hear me out..." she pleaded, but I turned my back on her. However, I quickly spun around when I registered the name she had just called me.
"What did you just say?" I asked slowly, my teeth clenched in frustration. I was exhausted from correcting people over and over again; I wasn't Eve, and I was fed up with everyone insisting on calling me by a name that didn't belong to me.
The anger bubbled up inside me, especially coming from her.
"Eve... I called you Eve," she stammered, her gaze dropping to the floor.
"I've told you countless times that's not who I am. What more do I need to do..." I shouted, but she stepped closer and covered my mouth with her hand. I noticed tears streaming down her cheeks, and her eyes were filled with a mix of pity and despair.
"I'm so sorry it has to be like this, but you are Eve. I can prove it to you. I know you don't remember who you are, and I don't know what happened, but you are her!" she said softly, glancing at the door as if expecting someone to enter.
"What on earth are you talking about?" I laughed, looking at her as if she had lost her mind or was playing a cruel joke, but she held my gaze firmly.
"I'm tired of everyone I meet insisting I'm someone I'm not. My parents live in Russia, and I'm their only child, not some stranger who was married to Dominic and had a crazy sister," I asserted, but she continued to look at me, her expression revealing that she knew something I didn't.
"I can show you the truth; I can prove that you are her," she whispered, and I looked at her, a mix of curiosity and confusion swirling within me.
"Prove it!" I snapped, my teeth clenched in frustration at her words that echoed in my mind. I didn't trust her, but a part of me was intrigued by how she could convince me that I wasn't who I thought I was.
"When we were kids, we were inseparable. You loved tattoos, but your parents disapproved, so we decided to get matching ones in a place they wouldn't notice," she explained, turning away and lifting her shirt to reveal a tattoo just below her back, near her waist.
It was a little bunny, and I gasped as I recognized it; it was the same tattoo I had. I couldn't recall getting it, but my parents had told me they gave it to me at birth.
"How can I be sure you didn't just draw that on yourself recently?" I retorted sharply, though it was impossible but I knew I wanted to reject what the truth was, the truth that she may be right in her words, and accepting that scared me.
she met my gaze, pulling out her phone.
Then I saw it a video of a younger version of me and her, a ginger-haired girl, capturing the moment I got my tattoo. As I watched, tears streamed down my face, and a sharp pain throbbed in my head, causing me to stumble back and sit on my bed.
This felt so familiar, yet the harder I tried to remember, the more lost I became. I looked up at Lily, who was watching me with a look of deep sympathy.
"So... you really think I'm Eve?" I asked, and she nodded, her gaze drifting away.
"I'm sorry, but you are Eve. You have a scar on your shoulder; you got it when you were six after a fight with your sister. She... hurt you," Lily admitted, and my eyes widened as thoughts of Harper flooded my mind.
I found myself whispering, "I don't quite understand why I feel like there's something missing in my life. I tried to push it away, but there's this persistent voice inside me that insists something is absent." I gazed at her, feeling the weight of my thoughts.
I could no longer ignore it; I was aware that something was indeed lacking in my life. Eve resembled me so closely that everyone who saw us confused us for one another. And then there was Ivan—his demeanor hinted at secrets he was keeping from me. If only I could have a conversation with him.
"You need to be cautious, I..." she began, but I shot her a piercing look.
"You brought me here knowing I was kidnapped, fully aware of what I went through..." I retorted sharply, and she moved closer, kneeling to take my hand.
"Everything I did was for your sake. Ivan has ulterior motives; he's not who you believe him to be, please," she implored, but I felt nothing in response to her words.
"And Dominic is?" I questioned, watching her avert her gaze.
"I'm sorry, but I can't allow you to return to Ivan. Dominic... I want to believe he's a changed man," she replied, and I pulled my hand away from hers.
"And how am I supposed to believe that?" I snapped back.
"I lied to him; you aren't Eve. I've decided to give him a chance to prove himself to you. Don't let him find out you're Eve, and don't let anyone else know either. They would come for you if they did," she pleaded, and I stared at her, bewildered.
