Chapter 12: The Sparkle Beast Incident

The day after the Great Glitter Bake-Off, things had finally calmed down—well, as much as they ever could in a world filled with magical snack thieves and frosting explosions. The villagers were still buzzing about our “Most Creative Disaster” award, and Fluffbuns was already planning a celebratory dance party (because apparently, we were now celebrities in Sparkle Hills).

I was hoping for a quiet day. Maybe sit by the fountain, eat a non-glitter-covered snack, and reflect on my increasingly bizarre existence as a gender-bent magical girl in an isekai world.

But peace was not on the menu.

Just as I was about to sink my teeth into a delicious, regular cupcake (no fairy dust or rainbow essence this time), the ground began to shake. At first, I thought it was just Snoofles sneaking more snacks again, but then the tremors got stronger.

“What now?” I groaned, already anticipating some new absurd problem.

Fluffbuns zipped up to me, eyes wide with excitement. “Did you hear that? It’s the Sparkle Beast! It’s coming this way!”

I blinked. “The what now?”

“The Sparkle Beast!” Fluffbuns repeated as if that explained anything. “It’s a legendary creature that roams the land, spreading glitter and chaos wherever it goes! It’s super rare, and people say it’s as big as a house!”

“Great,” I muttered, standing up. “Just what we need—more chaos and glitter.”

Before I could fully process what was happening, a booming roar echoed through the village, and the ground shook again. Villagers screamed and ran in every direction as something massive approached from the outskirts of town.

I turned toward the source of the noise, my jaw dropping as I caught sight of the Sparkle Beast. It was a giant, fluffy creature that looked like someone had crossed a bear with a glittery marshmallow. Its fur shimmered with every color of the rainbow, and it left a trail of sparkles in its wake.

It also seemed to be having the time of its life as it stomped through the village, gleefully knocking over carts and sending glitter flying into the air.

“Seriously?” I exclaimed, rubbing my temples. “Can’t we go one day without a glitter-related disaster?”

Fluffbuns, ever the cheerleader, floated beside me. “But it’s so cute! Look at it!”

Sure, it was cute in a “destroying everything in sight” kind of way. But the problem was that it was heading straight for the fountain in the center of the village—the one place I had been hoping to find some peace.

“I’ll handle this,” I sighed, channeling whatever magical girl energy I had left.

As I approached the beast, I could see that it wasn’t malicious, just… very enthusiastic about spreading glitter. It lumbered around, playfully batting at buildings and sending waves of sparkles cascading down like confetti.

“Hey! Sparkle Beast!” I shouted, waving my arms. “Over here!”

The giant creature paused mid-rampage and turned its massive, glittery head toward me. Its big, round eyes sparkled with curiosity, and for a moment, I thought I had its attention.

“Okay, good,” I muttered to myself. “Now just stay calm and—”

Before I could finish that thought, the Sparkle Beast bounded toward me with surprising speed, knocking over a stack of crates in its path. It came to a skidding halt right in front of me, staring down with those wide, glitter-filled eyes.

I swallowed. “Uh, nice Sparkle Beast. Let’s not… destroy anything else, okay?”

The creature blinked at me, then let out a joyful roar that sent a cloud of sparkles flying into the air. It leaned down, sniffing me curiously, its giant nose brushing against my face. I was suddenly covered in a fresh layer of glitter, which was both alarming and weirdly soft.

Fluffbuns, floating just out of reach, giggled. “Aww, it likes you!”

I shot her a look. “This isn’t the kind of ‘like’ I was hoping for.”

The Sparkle Beast let out another roar—though this one seemed more like an excited cheer than anything threatening. It plopped down in front of me, sending a small glitterquake through the village, and rolled onto its back like a giant puppy expecting belly rubs.

I stared at the upside-down creature. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Snoofles appeared beside me, seemingly unfazed by the giant beast. “Whoa! The Sparkle Beast is here! I’ve only heard legends! Do you think it likes snacks?”

“I don’t know,” I said, wiping glitter from my face. “But it seems to like belly rubs.”

Snoofles grinned. “Well, if it likes snacks, maybe we can tame it!”

“Tame it?” I repeated, eyeing the massive beast as it wiggled on its back, sending another wave of glitter into the air. “How do you ‘tame’ something this… sparkly?”

Snoofles pulled a cupcake from seemingly nowhere. “With cupcakes, of course!”

I groaned. “Of course.”

Before I could object, Snoofles marched up to the Sparkle Beast and waved the cupcake in front of its nose. The creature’s eyes snapped open, and it sniffed the air, clearly intrigued.

“Here, Sparkle Beast! Want a treat?” Snoofles cooed, holding the cupcake closer.

The beast rolled back onto its feet and gently took the cupcake from Snoofles’s hands, devouring it in one bite. It let out a delighted roar and nuzzled Snoofles, covering the little creature in a fresh layer of glitter.

Snoofles laughed, completely unfazed. “See? I told you it likes snacks!”

“Well, that’s one way to calm it down,” I muttered, wiping more glitter from my hair.

Fluffbuns floated down, beaming. “We should keep it! It could be our team mascot!”

“Keep it?” I sputtered. “Do you realize how much chaos this thing caused in the past five minutes? We’d be drowning in glitter by the end of the day!”

Snoofles, however, was already planning out names. “How about Glitterpuff? Or Sparklefluff?”

The Sparkle Beast let out another happy roar, as if approving of the suggestions.

I sighed, knowing I was hopelessly outnumbered. “Fine. But if it starts eating buildings, it’s your responsibility.”

Fluffbuns and Snoofles cheered, clearly thrilled with the new addition to our bizarre little crew. The Sparkle Beast—or Glitterpuff, as Snoofles had already started calling it—nuzzled me one last time before happily bounding off toward the nearest bakery.

“Well,” I said, turning to Fluffbuns, “at least we won’t have to worry about villains for a while.”

Fluffbuns giggled. “Nope! Just a giant glittery beast who loves cupcakes.”

As I watched Glitterpuff prance around the village, spreading joy and sparkles wherever it went, I realized that maybe this wasn’t the worst thing that could’ve happened. Sure, it was absurd. Sure, I was now covered in glitter—again. But at least things weren’t boring.

And in this strange, chaotic world of magical girls, snack thieves, and glitter explosions, maybe a little bit of absurdity was exactly what I needed.
