If a next life truly exists, I pray we never cross paths, coz pain is all I'm capable of giving to you. Nothing else.

Hanan had penned down these words just beside Faruk's writing before lighting the letter on fire.

Amira, who read the letter after Hanan had advised her to burn the letter as keeping the letter will have no positive relevance, it's only going to serve as a horrible reminder of the incident that led to Faruk's death.

"Faruk is now a history," Amira mumbled as she joined Hanan who was staring at the flame of fire burning in her bin.

"I know you are guilt-trapping yourself at the moment, but it's not your fault." Amira sighed, trying to make Hanan feel at ease, but Hanan could only smile and remain quiet at Amira's words, wishing it was as easy as said.

"I understand." Amira continued while observing Hanan's face and silence weighing a lot. "It's normal for you to feel sad but I want you to understand that your sadness isn't going to bring back the dead, is it?"

"Nope," Hanan whispered shaking her head.

"Good, you are allowed to grieve, but not for too long, from tomorrow, let's put Faruk behind us, please."

"Okay."

"May his soul rest in peace."

"Amin." They said sharing a brief hug that got interrupted by the sudden opening of the door.

"Hi!" That was Abdul waving as he walked into the room.

"Abdul, good evening." Amira waved back smiling.

"Nice to have you around." Abdul returned her smile as he approached her.

"Thanks." She sighed. "I had to come, Faruk's death and all... Amira says while gesturing at Hanan.

"Thanks, that's thoughtful of you, and I'm sorry about Faruk's death, he is your friend as well."

"Yeah, he was, his death still feels like a dream, it's so shocking and sad."

"May God grant him peace," Abdul says while taking a glance at Hanan's gloomy face.

"Amira... He says still staring at Hanan before continuing. "Can you give us a few minutes alone?"

"Sure," Amira replied, hurrying off, and once she was out of sight, he walked to Hanan, who was still staring at the burnt letter, which had now turned into ashes and a memory to keep for probably a lifetime.

"You burnt the letter?" He asked.

"Yes, I believe that's the best thing to do." She replied.

"Did you read the letter at least?"

"Yeah, I did, it was a letter of apology expressing his regret for his actions."

"So that's what the letters are all about."

"Hmm?"

"Faruk also sent letters to his parent."

"Oh. I wonder how they would react to his letters, especially the realization of their only child's death."

"It must have been heartbreaking just as his funeral went, everyone had tears in their eyes, which made me realize that though we all hated his actions, we never hated him."

"Yeah, I never for a second hated him despite everything that transpired between us. I was angry at him, but my anger never got to the extent of hating him, and I wished he knew this. Then maybe he would have spared his life, even if it was for the sake of his parents at least... Did you meet them at the funeral? How are they coping?"
