Grandma had woken up earlier than she normally does to inspect the arrangements taking place for the day's event.
The day she yearned more than ever had arrived, the day she got to set a date for her beloved grandchildren's wedding.
Normally, the wedding date discussion takes place between both couple's parents, but given the fact that both Najib and Hanan were orphans, Hanan and Najib had to be part of it.
"Emma, I hope the meals are ready and the gifts are set?"
"Yes Grandma, the gifts are in the Grand parlor, and the meals are already arranged in the dining room."
"Good, everything should be ready as we are expecting everyone soon."
"Uncle has arrived."
"Oh, take me to see him," Grandma replied, and with Emma's help, who wheeled Grandma's chair to the visitor's room, she helped her sit on the couch, joining Faruk's dad to talk.
"Good afternoon mama." He went on his knees greeting Grandma.
"Afternoon, dear, please get up." She replied. "I'm glad you came early, how have you been? I hope you're no longer grieving too much, let's keep him in our prayers and leave the rest to God, okay?"
"Yes mama, thank you."
"And what of Mama Faruk? Have you heard from her? I called her several times to pay my condolences, but she never picks."
"Mama, don't call her again coz she will never pick up, she cut off all ties with us. She also changed her contact number and I heard she has closed down her restaurant to relocate abroad."
"Hmm, toh!"
"Yes mama, where is everyone?"
"They are supposed to be here by now, let me call Najib, he went to bring Habiba." Grandma says dialing Najib's number.
Najib had gone to pick up Hanan, though she was supposed to come along with Abdul and Nanny Ann, but he insisted on getting her himself.
"Najib, where are you?" She says to him on the phone.
"We are here Grandma." Najib, Hanan, Abdul and Nanny Ann just walked in.
"Your Habiba is here." Najib announced, strolling in they all got on their knees, greeting Grandma and Uncle before settling in their respective seats.
"Grandma." Hanan smiled.
"Habiba, my child," Grandma replied while pulling her close to her.
"How is your leg?" Hanan says patting Grandma's frail looking legs.
"It feels better now that you're around." Grandma smiled while turning to Abdul.
"Abdul, and that's Nanny Ann, right?" Grandma says pointing towards them.
"Yes ma." Nanny Ann smiled.
"Well, Abdul and Nanny Ann, I just want to say that I'm grateful and forever indebted to both of you for taking care of my child, Habiba. You took her in and protected her when we failed as her guardian, her late mother had entrusted her to us, but you fulfilled that duty more than we did, so I say thank you, and may God bless you."
"Amin grandma and you don't need to thank us, that's why we are a family." Abdul smiled.
"Right. So without wasting much time let's proceed to speak on what gathered us here today." Grandma announced, glancing at Hanan who had a timid look, she was suddenly feeling too shy to discuss her wedding.
"As Salamu Alaikum." They hear a voice that draws all their attention to the door seeing Amina and Amira walk in.
Hanan looked surprised to see them as she wasn't expecting them, she was happy to have her girls around.
