It was already 8 o'clock at night and they were still in the Ayako's house, but now talking, about the days in high school, when they would go to trips and how stupid they were back then."I remember the small convenience store that was beside our school, and every afternoon we'd be there eating rice cakes and kids would be intimidated to walk up because we were always in front of the store" yachi laughed, as the other two did too.
Yamaguchi chuckled, "You know that convenience store is still up and running? apparently the original owner of it died 2 years ago but his niece who lived with him ever since still continues to work in it"
"What? really? for some reason I kinda feel sad that he died, he was always so nice to us" y/n sighed and hugged her knees.
Kei was just there as usual, not talking but still listening, they were in the backyard eating watermelon that ayako cut up for them, "Oh I remember this one day that tsuki was so scared about something—i can't really remember what was it about but-" before yamaguchi could finish his sentence he suddenly remembered what that day was.
As the others looked at him confused to why he stopped mid way his sentence, kei looked at him with a straight face, but furrowing his eyebrows a bit.
Kei then soon realized which day yamaguchi was referring to, and immediately looked back at the ground.
"Dude i don't know, she's probably gonna reject me" he said expressionless to the guy that was a bit shorter than he was, "how would you know if you haven't tried, literally everyone in our school could see that you both like each other, and if she doesn't then damn"
"So just go ahead and ask her out, you bought the flowers already all you have to do is ask" he added, and the blonde just looked at him from the side, "fine" he sighs.
As kei looked up at the sky, he could see stars shining brightly, he cleared his throat to ease up the anxious feeling he for some reason felt when that memory came to his mind, "well, you guys are overstaying, you should probably go"
"You're still as mean as ever" y/n chuckled while rolling her eyes playfully trying to keep the atmosphere light, but kei doesn't really seem to see it that way, "well you're still as bland as ever" he replied but with a serious tone.
Y/n looked at him with a stank look on her face, "look who's talking" saying it with the same tone kei did, "Please, im not bland im just straightforward, you in the other hand is just plain boring" y/n scoffs while the others just looked at each other awkwardly not knowing what to do with the situation they're in.
"Okay well, I didn't really come here for your judgement, so you can keep your critical mouth shut" y/n stood up from where she was sitting, "please I wasn't even being critical, you started it" kei stayed looking at the sky as he said that being blunt.
"Cause you couldn't take a joke, anyway I should probably go, thanks for being bearable for a few hours." y/n walked away and to ayako to say her goodbye.
After she went away, the four were left in this awkward and weird situation, yamaguchi spoke up after a few minutes of them in the awkward silence, "well that was intense—i should probably go to, I'd love to go hangout with you guys in a couple of days maybe? we should catch up more" he smiled at the two girls who were also getting up from their seats.
They all said their goodbyes to each other and kei went back inside, he saw his mom sitting down on the sofa watching tv. "Kei come here"
"How was today? how are you?" kei sat down beside her pushing up his glasses that was on the bridge of his nose, "Fine"
"It was great seeing everyone wasn't it? I mean due to the circumstances it probably wasn't that great since it's a funeral" she added still keeping her eyes glued to the tv, "Yeah" he replied shortly, he never was really fond of having conversations after having an exhausting day, or just in general.
"You know, as corny and weird as this sounds to you, I missed seeing y/n around the house, it reminded me of how young you guys used to be" ayako smiled getting reminded of memories back when they were in high school.
Kei sighed, although he didn't really understand why his mother was talking about how much she missed his ex girlfriend, he wouldn't argue because he knew that his mom was having a hard time.
He just let her talk about how the entire day was for her, she avoided talking about Akiteru the whole time, but he could understand, since he has no intention of talking about him either, ever since it happened it became a sensitive topic for the both of them.
