Chapter 71: Frail Body

At that moment, on the bed, Lu Beihuai leaned against the headboard, his strong arms wrapped around the fragile young man in his embrace. He lowered his broad shoulders and tilted his face to listen to Song Qie.

“Shall I take you to the hospital?” Lu Beihuai asked.

“I'm fine now, no need.”

“Are you sure you don’t feel uncomfortable?”

“My hands are shaking.”

“What about this?” Lu Beihuai asked, feeling Song Qie's trembling hands.

Song Qie felt Lu Beihuai's rough palm wrap around his hands, warm and strong, suppressing his uncontrollable shaking. The blue veins on the back of Lu Beihuai's hand spread to his forearm, providing him the same sense of security as the arm against his side. Sleepiness and fatigue began to creep in.

The atmosphere grew quiet, and the strong heartbeat from Lu Beihuai’s chest felt like a lullaby, calming the lingering fear from the accident.

Now, all he felt was sleepiness, fatigue, and a slight chill.

“...Yeah, that’s better.”

Lu Beihuai lowered his gaze and noticed Song Qie's eyelids fluttering as he began to doze off. “Then I'll let you sleep?”

He had blow-dried his hair, but Lu Beihuai still worried about Song Qie catching a cold. After all, he didn’t know how long Song Qie had been lying there. No matter how concerned he was, now was not the right time to ask.

As Lu Beihuai loosened his hold, Song Qie grabbed his arm. “Wait, I'm not sleepy.”

Lu Beihuai raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you sleepy?” He recalled how Song Qie had been thinking about fishing just a moment ago.

He looked at Song Qie, who turned his head to meet his gaze, panic evident in his eyes. Lu Beihuai had never seen him so scared before. Frowning slightly, he glanced at the trembling hand gripping his arm, noticing it had started shaking when he drove Song Qie back.

“I’m not too sleepy now.” Song Qie held onto Lu Beihuai’s arm tightly, his eyelashes quivering slightly as he hesitated to speak. “...Are you going to bed?”

This cautious inquiry sounded like a question but felt more like a request.

“No, I’ll watch you sleep.” Lu Beihuai settled Song Qie onto the bed, covering him with a blanket before sitting beside him. Seeing Song Qie still watching him with wide eyes filled Lu Beihuai’s heart with a strange numbness. “I won’t leave. You sleep.”

“Are you sleepy then?” Song Qie asked.

“Not sleepy.”

“Why don’t you sleep here?” Song Qie shifted under the quilt, making space for himself. “We’re all men.”

Lu Beihuai swallowed hard, fighting against the urge to yield. “Have you forgotten what I did to you before?”

Song Qie fell silent, retreating slightly. “No, go back to sleep.”

As soon as he spoke, he covered his eyes with his hands, plunging himself into darkness.

Lu Beihuai's voice, low but gentle, came from above. “Okay, stop talking and go to sleep.”

“Okay.”

“If you’re like this tomorrow, I won’t know whether to let you go back. If you don’t go back, I won’t know what to do. If you go back, I’m afraid you’ll suddenly collapse and scare me.” Lu Beihuai leaned against the bed, covering Song Qie’s eyelids with his hands, resting his neck against the headboard to alleviate his fatigue. “Their short-selling report won’t be released casually. Once it’s out, it will inevitably affect the stock price evidence in the capital market. I’ll sue them, but I need you to be there.”
