Chapter 36: Frail Body
"Where are you going?" Lu Beihuai's tone was laced with selective obedience. He focused solely on Song Qie's pale face, a surge of resentment boiling within him. "You made me fall in love with you, and now you just abandon me without any explanation?"
Song Qie could only remain silent, his thoughts spiraling into despair.
Destroy it. This world.
"It was you who bullied me first, and I haven't forgiven you yet," Lu Beihuai continued, his voice rising with each word. "You coaxed me, tricked me into loving you, and then you left. What do you think I am, Song Qie? A dog that comes when you summon it and leaves when you dismiss it?"
Unease twisted in Song Qie's stomach. As his heart raced and breathing became labored, he felt the oppressive weight of the moment.
He was merely an innocent scapegoat, caught in a tangled web that had nothing to do with him. He had once thought he could save Lu Beihuai, but now it seemed that stubbornness had eclipsed reason.
What on earth is this guy thinking? He had rejected his efforts to help before and was now abandoning him. There was no way he could genuinely like Lu Beihuai; it felt like a cruel game.
Avoiding Lu Beihuai's gaze, he turned to Song's father for help. "Dad, I don’t want to see him. Why don’t you send me abroad first?" His hands tightened around the edge of the sofa, desperate to support his trembling body.
A man who knew the times was a hero; he needed to persuade Song’s father to send him away before things spiraled further out of control.
As he looked at the two of them—Lu Beihuai, consumed by his emotions, and Song's father, deep in thought—he sensed that neither was considering his feelings.
"You are all staying home until the results come out," Song’s father declared firmly, a protective stance against potential disgrace.
No matter what, family secrets must remain hidden.
Song Qie's heart sank. My personal plans are crumbling.
"I know you are in your adolescence, and it's normal to experience your first love," Song’s father said, his tone softening slightly. "But you must understand that societal opinions are a whirlpool; once you’re caught, you’ll drown, and coming out will leave you in tatters. This is true for homosexuality as well."
He continued, "Allowing you to live in the manor doesn’t mean you can meet each other. Song Qie, you will stay in your own room. I’ll make arrangements for you in Beihuai. I’ll also find someone to look after your father’s affairs. For now, you will reside in the Song family home, and there will be no school. I will arrange for a private tutor to prepare you for your interviews in the coming months."
"Especially you, Song Qie. That cake you painted for me? You know the guarantee you signed. You don’t need to act as if we’re going to have a dramatic separation. And don’t even think about sneaking off to find Lu Beihuai."
At this, Lu Beihuai's brow furrowed. "What letter of guarantee?"
He may now know that he and Song Qie could be brothers, but the letter of guarantee was still a mystery to him.
Song Qie quickly waved his hands, desperate to silence his father. "Hey—"
His heart raced with the weight of revelations. One thing after another, my heart can’t take it anymore.
"He borrowed 50 million from me for you and helped you repay the previous 200,000. He also asked me to give you 50,000 every month," Song's father said, irritation creeping into his voice. "If you two dare to elope, I will break your legs! Aren't you ashamed?"
