Chapter 70: Frail Body“Will you give me a chance?”
“Let me go first.”
“Oh.” Lu Beihuai immediately released Song Qie's wrist, noticing the redness left from his grip. He felt a pang of distress. “I’m sorry; I was too rough. Does it hurt?”
Seeing that Lu Beihuai was only now apologizing, Song Qie replied, “My neck hurts.”
Lu Beihuai stood up, gently grasped Song Qie’s shoulders, and lowered his gaze to inspect the spot where he had bitten him. He noticed a mark on Song Qie’s neck—no bruise, but slight redness and swelling. Frowning, he touched it lightly with his fingertips. “I’m really sorry.”
“Don’t touch me casually,” Song Qie said, dodging away and meeting his gaze. “It’s impolite.”
The way he emphasized "impolite" felt more like a reprimand than anything else.
Imagining it as "scolding is love," his earlier mood of depression faded away.
Lu Beihuai suppressed a smile. Noticing Song Qie covering his neck and eyeing him warily, he asked softly, “If I’m polite, can I pursue you?”
“…It depends on your performance.” Song Qie fumbled with his words, his ears growing hot. “I—I’m just saying.”
He had never been in a relationship and assumed he should be heterosexual. However, he had never met a girl he particularly liked, let alone a boy. His earlier impulse had been driven by the pity he felt for Lu Beihuai's tears. The truth was, he found Lu Beihuai’s situation quite miserable. He realized that blaming Lu Beihuai for not understanding his perspective was unfair.
I just don’t know why I’ve become so soft-hearted.
“Okay.” Lu Beihuai turned around and began to clean up the dishes. “Go take a shower and sleep first. I’ll handle this.”
Seeing how naturally he moved about, Song Qie didn’t know how to respond. “...You want to stay overnight?”
Lu Beihuai picked up the pot of finished instant noodles, looked at Song Qie seriously, and nodded. “Yeah, it’s late now. Can you let me stay for one night? I can sleep in the living room.”
Song Qie hesitated. “I have a guest room. You should sleep there.”
“Guest room?” Lu Beihuai frowned. “Have you ever invited anyone to stay at your home?”
“That’s normal.” Song Qie walked to the cloakroom to get a change of clothes. “Everyone has the right to make friends. I have, and so can you.” As he stepped into the cloakroom, he glanced back at Lu Beihuai, who wore a resentful expression. “If you’re not happy about it, then go home and sleep. You have a villa; my little house may not be comfortable for you.”
“No, I’m happy.” Lu Beihuai held the pot with an expressionless face, suppressing a surge of jealousy. Who could it be that had stayed at Song Qie's house!?
Song Qie averted his gaze. “Well, as long as you’re happy.”
He grabbed a change of clothes and headed into the bathroom.
…
The bathroom was filled with steam. The hot water should have washed away the fatigue from today’s intense work, but as the water poured over him, his body suddenly froze, leaving him unable to move.
An unprecedented fear spread from his heart, and his hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
Song Qie's hands shook more violently as he tried to raise them to turn off the water, but he couldn’t even manage to reach the hot water button. Strange, terrifying images flashed through his mind—darkness, choking, and the inability to breathe. The sound of water in his ears amplified his fear.
