Chapter 57: Frail Body
Song Qie stood before the desk, his gaze fixed on the photo of himself in women’s clothing, the image a painful reminder of a past he wished to forget. The soft fabric of the pink suspender dress, the innocent pose, and the bright smile that seemed so foreign to him now felt like a mockery. It was a snapshot of a moment he had never wanted to relive.
From childhood to adulthood, he had prided himself on being unbothered by trivialities. Little did he realize that entering this office, and the presence of Lu Beihuai, would unravel the threads of control he had woven around his emotions. Each day, Lu Beihuai's return to the Song family had woven a complex web of power dynamics that Song Qie was struggling to navigate. The weight of Lu's possessiveness loomed over him like a dark cloud, and the power he wielded made him feel like a puppet on strings.
“Let go.” Song Qie's voice was ice cold, a sharp contrast to the warmth radiating from Lu Beihuai's body as he held him from behind.
Lu Beihuai paused, the coldness in Song Qie's tone piercing through the facade he had carefully constructed. His brow furrowed, and for a fleeting moment, he felt the grip of frustration and hurt. He raised his arms slightly, attempting to soften his stance, to coax rather than command. “I’m just trying to—”
Before he could finish, Song Qie broke free and marched toward the desk. In a sudden fit of anger, he seized the photo frame and hurled it to the floor. The glass shattered with a deafening crash, the sound echoing in the room like the shattering of their fragile peace. Shards glinted menacingly around them, and the remnants of the image lay strewn like a broken promise.
With a cold determination, Song Qie bent down, clearing away the jagged glass. He grasped the photo, the girl’s face still haunting him, and with a swift motion, tore it into pieces. The shreds fluttered through the air before landing against Lu Beihuai's chest, a storm of anger and resolution.
“I won’t be your plaything,” he declared, his eyes blazing with defiance.
Lu Beihuai’s expression darkened, a mixture of confusion and displeasure etching deeper lines into his handsome face.
“Lu Beihuai,” Song Qie continued, his voice unwavering, “my boss doesn’t know about our history. I will assist you with the listing of Kewen Pharmaceuticals. I’ll do my best to complete the process within six months. But beyond that, I want nothing to do with you.”
A tense silence filled the room as Lu Beihuai processed the words.
“I’m not joking. I hate you,” Song Qie pressed, each word infused with a potent blend of anger and hurt. “You’re strange, you have a bad temper, and your mood swings are exhausting. I felt sympathy for you once, but now I see that pity can be just as hateful.”
Taking a deep breath, Song Qie braved Lu Beihuai’s piercing gaze. He sensed the darkness pooling within the other man, a shadow of emotions he could neither decipher nor ignore.
“You always touch me without my consent,” Song Qie accused, his voice steady despite the trepidation coursing through him. “As educated individuals, you should know how inappropriate that is. Do I really need to explain this to you?”
He paused, allowing his words to sink in. “Let’s recount the times you’ve crossed the line. You forced me into those clothes, violated my rights, and now, on a day like today, you’ve put my name card in a position that invites ridicule. What do you want everyone to think of me?”
The air crackled with tension as they stood locked in a battle of wills. Each accusation hung heavy between them, fueling a fire that neither could ignore. The office felt smaller, the walls closing in around them, as their unresolved history bubbled to the surface.
