Chapter 67: Frail Body

“I’ll forgive you if you hug me.”

Song Qie was caught off guard by the sudden embrace, freezing in place and unsure of how to react. His hands hovered awkwardly in the air, not knowing where to settle. His cheeks flushed with warmth as he instinctively pushed Lu Beihuai away.

The force of the push surprised Lu Beihuai, causing him to lean back against his chair, and he winced, his face paling.

…Hiss, my shoulder is cramping.

“I have a cramp! You’re repaying kindness with hostility,” he exclaimed, holding his shoulder, annoyance flashing in his eyes.

Song Qie, hearing the commotion, glanced over to see Lu Beihuai’s discomfort. He stepped forward on tiptoe but stopped abruptly. “...Who told you to hug me so suddenly?”

Lu Beihuai felt the stiffness and pain in his right shoulder, unable to move it properly. He chuckled despite the discomfort but chose to defuse the tension with an apology. “Alright, I won’t do it again. I’m sorry.”

A peculiar silence enveloped them, not quite a stalemate, but more of a moment where the scales of their dynamic tilted toward one side.

“I admit that it was my negligence for discovering the short-selling crisis later than you,” Song Qie finally broke the silence.

Enduring the pain in his shoulder, Lu Beihuai replied patiently, “Then hug me.”

Song Qie's forehead throbbed. He couldn’t believe he was using this situation to bargain with Lu Beihuai. “I need to clarify that since the other party has a planned and organized short-selling strategy against Kewen Pharmaceutical, this crisis was bound to happen, whether we noticed it before or after. It was my negligence to discover it later than you, but I’m not the main person responsible.”

Lu Beihuai met Song Qie's defiant gaze, curiosity flickering in his eyes. “So, what do you mean?”

“You should reflect on which aspect of Kewen Pharmaceuticals was poorly controlled, allowing this loophole to be exploited. As the executive president, this is ultimately a management issue on your part. This short-selling crisis isn’t solely my fault.” Song Qie paused for a moment, then added, “I will continue searching for suitable investors in the next couple of days. I still hold a portion of the circulating shares. Once Kewen Pharmaceuticals resumes normal trading, any price drop will be mine, and any increase will belong to you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a low, humorless laugh escaped Lu Beihuai.

Seeing Lu Beihuai’s pained expression, Song Qie frowned. “What are you laughing at? I’m being honest here.”

“So, you’re apologizing to yourself, not to me?” Lu Beihuai’s eyes sparkled with amusement as he looked at Song Qie, who stood resolute yet clearly upset. It appeared he was merely trying to coax himself while also stepping on Lu Beihuai's pride.

“I do want to apologize to you. After all, it’s my responsibility to discover these issues more quickly. But this short-selling crisis would have come regardless of who found it first. My apology is about the advance suspension you applied for. I take direct responsibility for the losses incurred due to this timing discrepancy. There will inevitably be losses during the suspension period.”

Song Qie's elegant figure was reflected in the floor-to-ceiling windows, and he spoke with steady confidence. Perhaps because he had been raised in a privileged environment, he carried a certain pride that made him feel he could always turn any situation to his advantage.
