Chapter 73: Frail Body

"Baby, is it okay?"

Warm breath brushed the side of his face, and Song Qie could feel the solid chest pressed against his back. The rhythm of the heartbeat behind him, steady and loud, echoed in sync with the whispered words, sending a tremor through him. His lashes fluttered as he swallowed, his throat dry.

Being encircled by Lu Beihuai’s tall frame made him tense. The atmosphere was thick with an unspoken tension, almost suffocating.

"...Can’t you just change the name?" Song Qie muttered, staring at the words on the screen in frustration.

Why didn’t it feel this strange before?

"And what do you want me to call you then?" Lu Beihuai’s voice was patient, his tone light, yet with a teasing edge. "Good boy? Baby?"

Song Qie shot him a confused frown, turning slightly to face him. "Am I a child? Why are you calling me that? Do you want to be my dad or something?"

Lu Beihuai chuckled softly and leaned in. "How about... husband?"

Song Qie’s face immediately flushed, and he stood up abruptly.

"Oof—" Lu Beihuai staggered slightly, covering his nose as he was bumped in the process.

Song Qie panicked, grabbing Lu Beihuai's arm to check on him. "Sorry, sorry! Did I hurt you? Let me see."

"It hurts," Lu Beihuai said, still holding his nose dramatically.

"Should I get you an ice pack?" Song Qie offered, but before he could move, Lu Beihuai gently caught his wrist, pulling him back.

"Just breathe on it," Lu Beihuai whispered playfully, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Song Qie froze as Lu Beihuai bent down, his face inching closer. The sharp lines of his features and the playful smile behind his gold-rimmed glasses left Song Qie momentarily spellbound. He couldn’t move, as if something in those deep eyes held him still, his mind suddenly going blank.

The proximity sent a strange, unfamiliar sensation running through him, like the first sip of sparkling water—a fizzing, tingling feeling that lingered.

“Baby, help me out,” Lu Beihuai teased, his grin widening as he watched Song Qie's flustered reaction.

Realizing the mockery in Lu Beihuai’s tone, Song Qie’s temper flared. "It didn’t hurt that much! Are you still a man?"

Seeing his plan fall through, Lu Beihuai shrugged, smiling apologetically. "Fine, I’m tough."

Song Qie glanced at his nose, which had turned slightly red from the impact, but chose to look away. "...You've been working all day. Eat something before it gets cold."

Lu Beihuai took a seat beside him, casually picking up the bowl of porridge Song Qie had left unfinished. "Then what should I call you? A love name should be personal. 'Lu Beihuai' isn’t exactly romantic, is it? Maybe I can give you some ideas?"

Song Qie walked into the kitchen, recalling that there were some ice patches in the refrigerator.

When Lu Beihuai saw him enter, he immediately stood up, worried: "What are you doing in the kitchen?"

Song Qie, already rummaging through the fridge, responded without looking up, "Just looking for something. I think I left it in here."

"What exactly are you looking for?" Lu Beihuai asked, following him into the kitchen, assuming he was after food. "You want something to eat again?"
