Chapter 75: Frail Body

When Song Qie opened Lu Beihuai's office door, he saw Li Ke raising his hand to knock. Li Ke stopped abruptly and coughed awkwardly.

Li Ke: “?” He lowered his hand and saw Special Assistant Song coming out of the CEO’s office. It wasn’t surprising, but he smiled and asked, “Special Assistant Song, is President Lu available now?”

Song Qie felt a subtle discomfort at the question, as if it was asking if Lu Beihuai was too "busy" for others. This feeling was a bit strange for him.

After all, he and Lu Beihuai had not officially confirmed their relationship. The fewer people who knew, the better. They needed to maintain professionalism, especially since he had already decided not to renew his contract with Hongyu Capital or Lu Beihuai. Handling the boundaries of their relationship properly was important, at least until he left the company.

"I believe so. You can ask him yourself. I'll be busy now," Song Qie replied curtly, lowering his eyes as he brushed past Li Ke.

Li Ke sighed softly, thinking how difficult it was to pursue someone like Song Qie. He couldn’t help but wonder whether President Lu had managed to win him over after two or three years.

Back at his own desk, Song Qie sat down and began organizing his afternoon agenda.

The first task was to compile a detailed report of the investors he managed, something he needed to complete before submitting his resignation.

The second task was more personal: considering whether he should pursue a career as a fund manager and if doing so would allow him to slow down and focus more on his health.

He really did need to consider his health. Though his condition had improved after surgery, his body still wasn’t fully recovered. He couldn’t afford too much excitement—he couldn’t even handle the physical strain of something as simple as deep breathing.

Given Lu Beihuai’s usual level of... intensity...

With a snap, Song Qie slapped the back of his hand, frowning in frustration. No, he had always been a firm believer in being straight. How could he now be thinking about men—about Lu Beihuai, of all people? He could barely catch his breath during a kiss, and here he was, thinking about going further. He didn’t even know what to do. Clearly, he needed to educate himself on... certain matters.

Wait—

Taking a deep breath, Song Qie leaned back heavily in his chair and sighed. His mind wandered back to the memory of Lu Beihuai holding his ankle, kissing him with an intensity that seemed to linger in his thoughts.

Lu Beihuai always appeared so composed, with his gold-rimmed glasses giving him a refined air, but underneath that calm exterior, he was more passionate than anyone else.

He wasn’t obsessed with money.

He was obsessed with love.

This man had been starved for affection for so long that he was desperate for it. He’d been that way ever since they first met.

What would it be like if they really went through with it?

He recalled Lu Beihuai sweating profusely—he’d seen him boxing once during their third year of high school. He’d even gone along for a match. When Lu Beihuai sweated, his clothes clung to his toned body, and back then, his physique was...

“...”

Song Qie shook his head in despair and slammed his palms onto the desk, burying his face in his hands. He was chastising himself for letting his thoughts wander in the middle of the day.
