Eighth year at Hogwarts was supposed to be a fresh start for everyone, but it was clear that old habits died hard. The inter-house dynamics were still as tense as ever, even though the war was behind them. But there were moments-rare, but they existed-where the students from all four houses managed to find common ground.
One of those moments had occurred tonight in the Gryffindor common room, where a handful of eighth years had gathered for an impromptu game of Truth or Dare. It had started out innocently enough, with a few simple truths, like asking about crushes or the worst hex someone had ever cast. But as the night wore on and the butterbeer flowed, the dares grew bolder, the truths more personal.
Harry Potter had reluctantly joined the group, convinced by Hermione that it would be a "good bonding experience." To his surprise, Draco Malfoy had been there too, lounging in one of the armchairs with an air of indifference that Harry knew was just for show. Over the past few months, he'd noticed how Draco had started to relax around him, the sneers and sharp remarks replaced with something more civil-dare he say, friendly.
But Harry hadn't expected the night to take the turn that it did.
Seamus, who had downed more than his fair share of butterbeer, pointed at Draco, a mischievous grin on his face. "Alright, Malfoy. Truth or dare?"
Draco raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "Truth."
Seamus' grin widened, and Harry immediately knew this wasn't going to be good. "What's your biggest turn-on?"
The group erupted into laughter, and Draco rolled his eyes. "Is that really the best you can come up with?"
"Come on, Malfoy," Seamus pressed, still grinning. "Answer the question."
Draco sighed dramatically, but there was a faint flush creeping up his neck. He glanced around the circle, his eyes landing on Harry for the briefest of moments before looking away. "Fine," Draco muttered, crossing his arms over his chest. "Parseltongue."
The room went silent for a moment, and then a few giggles and raised eyebrows followed.
"Wait, seriously?" Dean asked, looking both amused and confused. "Parseltongue?"
Draco scowled, clearly regretting his decision to play along. "Yes. It's... intriguing."
Harry, however, had gone completely still. He blinked, staring at Draco as the realization hit him. Draco Malfoy finds Parseltongue... attractive?
Draco met Harry's gaze briefly, and for a moment, something unspoken passed between them-something that made Harry's stomach flip in a way he hadn't expected.
Seamus, still grinning like an idiot, raised his eyebrows at Harry. "Oi, Harry, looks like you've got an advantage there."
Harry chuckled awkwardly, though his mind was racing. He'd hardly used Parseltongue since the war ended, but now, with this new bit of information, an idea began to form in the back of his mind.
The game continued, but Harry couldn't stop thinking about it. Draco Malfoy has a thing for Parseltongue.
The next day, Harry couldn't get the thought out of his head. He kept glancing at Draco during breakfast, wondering if there had been more to the admission than just a casual confession. It wasn't until later that afternoon, during a free period in the library, that Harry decided to test the waters.
Draco was seated at a table, surrounded by books, his brow furrowed in concentration. Harry casually walked over, taking the seat across from him.
"Potter," Draco said without looking up, "to what do I owe the pleasure?"
